Mario's only known Johnny Cash's version of "Hurt," but today he's hearing the Nine Inch Nails original for the first time. This song hits completely different when you discover where it came from.
Trent Reznor wrote "Hurt" from a much darker place than Johnny Cash ever touched. Before Cash made it his final statement, this was raw industrial rock about pain, addiction, and regret. In this reaction, Mario experiences the original Nine Inch Nails version and we compare how each artist handles the same song in completely different ways.
This is a first time reaction to Nine Inch Nails "Hurt." We talk about what makes the original so heavy, how the two versions contrast, and why hearing this song for the first time after only knowing Cash's version is such a shock to the system.

Its perfectly fine if you like Cashs' cover better as just a matter of taste, but when people make the argument that his cover is superior to the original (which it's not) because "it's significance means more to Johnny and his journey" or that "Johnny embodies the lyrics more" or whatever; then that person probably hasn't really listened to the original.
20 years later I was married on a precious beautiful girl, that turned out to be a schizo
she made me the happiest man in the world and then she turned my life into hell
I ended up with a two bankruptcies and three addictions and a heart beyond repair
I mean, I love Cash's version, but this one hits home all the way
