In this video I remove the front wheel arch liner on my 1998 BMW Z3 2.8 Roadster (Arctic Silver, 5-speed manual) to inspect the condition of the front section of the inner sill—a well-known corrosion area on Z3s.
After removing the liner, I found that all of the original fixings were heavily corroded, so I replaced them with new genuine BMW fasteners (Part No. 07147129161). Fortunately, the metalwork was generally in good condition, with only minor surface corrosion present.
To prevent future rust development, I wire brushed the affected areas and treated them with Bilt Hamber UB Dynax Firm-Film anti-corrosion wax for long-term protection.
If you own a BMW Z3, this is a worthwhile inspection that can help identify corrosion before it becomes a serious structural issue.
Parts used:
• Genuine BMW fixing screws/bolts – Part No. 07147129161
• Bilt Hamber UB Dynax Firm-Film
Car details:
• 1998 BMW Z3 2.8 Roadster
• 5-Speed Manual
• Arctic Silver Metallic
