Oof. A decade later this song is still giving me goosebumps when I hear it… what Disturbed did with it is nothing short of magic.

I never felt the emotion in The Sound of Silence until I heard Disturbed’s version. The impact of those words needed this voice.

Do you think David and Disturbed knows we are still SO obsessed?

As many have said, the original by S&G is the warning.  This is the rage that the warning was ignored.

When Paul Simon himself sends you a message telling you Thank You for doing one of his songs justice....you know you did something VERY right!!!

Hands down, the absolute best cover ever. Period.

This isn't a cover. This isn't a song. This isn't a performance.
This is an experience.

The thing that hit me the hardest when I first heard this song (and I've been hearing this song for 60 years) was when he sang "the neon god THEY made." The change in emphasizing that single world finally helped me to understand what the song was really saying. Another impactful thing about this version of the tune was mentioned in a comment to another reactor a while ago, that Simon & Garfunkel were warning us about where society was headed and Disturbed reimagining expressed anger that the warning wasn't heeded. I've missed you, Barry.

He did this performance really sick.  He had the flu. 102 fever and a vocal lesion!  He said he had to make a few adjustments to avoid hurting that lesion further.  He almost did not perform but he said he couldn't not show up on such short notice.  The show made him sit on a stool.  and he still delivered a heart wrenching performance!!!  He got a 10 minute standing ovation!!  They had to halt filming!  You have to watch the official video!  The visuals take it up just that much more!!  Paul Simon actually endorsed this version and told David that this is his song now!

I tell this story on sites that react to this amazing performance: A good friend was in the audience that night. He said that the workers backstage came out front to see who was singing. He also told me that the audience gave them a 10 minute standing ovation. I am still jealous over this!

And to think David had the flu when he sang this and still performed that’s why he was sat down because he had a fever. He has a phenomenal voice.

The first time I saw it I cried - then I watched over and over, with an ugly cry. His voice is so beautiful!!

Every single time I listen to this version  I cry. Depending on my mood I may end up ugly crying.
