Today, October 7, 2026, Piero passed away at the Italian Hospital in Buenos Aires at the age of 81. The author of "Mi Viejo," one of Latin America's most beloved songs, won international festivals, was inducted into the Latin Grammy Hall of Fame, and yet chose to live in a way no one expected. In this video, we tell you why.

Piero Antonio Franco De Benedictis was born in Gallipoli, Italy, emigrated to Argentina at the age of three, studied at a seminary with Third World priests, was censored by the dictatorship, exiled to a mill in Spain, adopted by Colombia, and returned to Argentina to continue singing and working for social causes until the end of his life. This is his story.
