How do Sheen inks make their sheen? I put together a sample of 12 sheen inks to compare and also used a microscope to get up close to better understand sheen. I have a handful of some of the Top Sheening Inks and others that have a slight sheen to them. Below is the list of the inks used in this video.

Inks used:

KWZ SHEEN MACHINE
KWZ SHEEN MACHINE 2
VINTA MAHARLIKA
VINTA DUGONG BUGHAW
DIAMINE CHRISTINE
DIAMINE MAUREEN
DIAMINE LITTLE BOB
DIAMINE MAJESTIC BLUE
ROBERT OSTER FIRE & ICE

I know you’re a big fan of Sargasso Sea, but I’ve never heard you mention the amazing sheen on it. Took your recommendation and bought a bottle, it’s super sheeny in a medium nib!

My limited experience of Diamine Irridescent Inks is that they are fairly trouble free & don't fingers x'd clog!

I don't know what is happening in this particular case, but some substances has different colour in solid and dissolved form, because the molecules interacts with the solvent molecules in complex ways. For example iodine is a dark grey or metallic-looking solid, but a solution with ethanol becomes purple and a solution with water becomes brown. Maybe something similar is going on here?

Don't feel bad about doing poorly with chemistry. I only stuck with it, sadly forgotten a lot now, due to my interest in certain energetic chemistry.

I am loving your videos! Going through all of them. This one was extremely interesting and now I must hunt down a few more inks! Thank you for sharing. BTW, your printing & handwriting is superb!

Best album ever! I guess I'm old. lol Tried a sheen ink once, never again. Opened the bottle, filled one pen about a year ago. Still finding stains on my desk. I believe the ink wants to escape the bottle. Blackstone Sydney Harbour blue.
