He is a russian citizen, although he is not russian by ethnicity. He is from Dagestan region of Russia, they are mostly muslim. They have one of the best wrestling schools in the world.
Wow! I have never seen Cael lose like that, but my goodness was that an awesome match even though it didn't produce a U.S. victory. The judges certainly screwed up that 2-2 call though. Should have just been 2 for the Russian.
Damn the Russians are so distinct and so effective in their style of wrestling. They are incredible. You see this here and with the Saitiev Bros, Fadsaev, Tsargush etc. They are really not the best athletes, they are not the best conditioned, they just no exactly what to do and when to do it. They incorporate a style that renders conditioning not nearly as important. They stay calm, and the techniques are so ingrained in their muscle memory they know exactly where to push, where to pull, where to be, etc. Lots and lots of drilling at half speed.
Not only was it a picture perfect crotch lift, but then Sajidov ended up with the takedown and none of the judges awarded the one point. 2 and 2 was total BS, but not awarding the takedown was even worse. The final score should have been 5-1. Man, I wish Cael had stuck around to see how he would have done against Ketoev.
@HellzAce umm no. an ankle pick is when you have a hand on the hand and a hand on the ankle. A LOW SINGLE is when you grab the ankle WITHOUT the head with the same arm as the leg ou are shooting for. Go look up some ankle pick videos and some low single videos
