I think the only way to make the trick better is to up it from 2 to 51 fake reveals, showing them every card in the deck that is not theirs.

The math behind this is simple. You put 8 cards on top, so the target card is at position 8 + N. You then remove N cards for the first failure. The card is now the 8th card (8 + N - N = 8). Spelling out the card names will get you between 10 ("ace of clubs") and 15 ("eight of diamonds") cards. The rest is just powers of 2 math. In the first run you eliminate the cards that are at odd numbers leaving 2, 4, 6, *8*, 10, and possibly 12 and 14. On the next run, you eliminate the odd ones in that list, which are the ones equal to 2 x an odd number (2, 6, 10, 14). That leaves 4, 8, and possibly 12. The next step removes the odd positions in that list or 2 x 2 x an odd number in the original list. This leaves card number 8.
This only works for values of 15 or less, because at 16 cards, cards 8 and 16 from the original stack are the only two left and the split would discard number 8. But the longest suit is "diamonds" and the longest card names are "three", "seven", "eight", and "queen", so the maximum length is 15.
This should work with N values over 20. But you need at least N + 15 in the deck, unless you put the cards from the first failure on the bottom of the deck.

I always play along on my side of the screen when i first watch the trick. I picked 12 in my head and then you picked 12 i and was like "wow this guy is good" 😂

Ah man I was trying this trick and for the first fail I really did get the card

Take out all the false cuts and shuffles and the key card relocation, what you're left with is very simple: spec remembers the nth card, you add 8 cards, then remove n cards to move their card to the 8th position. Finally, you separate out a packet of less than 16 cards so that the elimination procedure will narrow down to a single card with only 3 steps.

But knowing that's all it is leaves room to jazz it a bit. For example, if you only add one card instead of 8, you put their card on top after the n are removed. If you move 12, you can use the classic Fulves impromptu speller so that the card does come out at the end of spelling.

It's worth noting that the trick will work with any number up to like 44, not just up to 20. It's just that numbers that big will make the counting take forever.

Here's one other way you could do the key card relocation: peek the top card, have them cut off a small packet (about a fourth) and count how many it is. Have them memorize the bottom card, and then shove the whole packet into the middle of the deck somewhere "so your card ends up at a completely random place". After some false shuffles, go through the deck and find the peeked card, then just go 8 cards past it and cut there.

Very subtle handling on your "taking the deck back from the spec" move. I missed it. But after seeing the final shuffle and cut, I knew I had missed it. Hd to go back to find that move.  Again, well done!  The rest adds amazement to the find.

Works in English, doesn't work in German.
The spelling of cards are remarkably longer in English than in German.
In this performance customer chooses Ten of Spades (11 letters, so 11 cards to be counted).
In German that's "Pik Zehn" - 7 letters, so 7 cards to be counted, and with that, the chosen card is not even among these.

It's a pitty as that's a nice trick as a filler, but well there are tons of others out there to use for that.
But thank you anyways :)

I love when he says "I have no idea how it works."

My jaw dropped to the floor after seeing how smoothly Matt did the trick @ 10:30

Absolute BANGER Matt!

These mathematical mysteries always amaze me. 👏

the pinky gap is so hard for me ur so  smooth with it i cant cut the deck and hold it with my thumb it takes forever lol

Wow,that’s mental 🎉thanks

holy graze i have no clue how this works but this is awsome and easy to learn thanks for this wonderful trick now its showtime

Learned that mirror card trick from Matt.
I know how to do it but don't know why or how it works.  I have no idea how that trick works.
Great channel.

This is real magic🙌🃏 💯

instead of revealing the '12th' card to not be their card, and the 'ten of spades' to also not be their card. but then have the elimanation sequence, i reckon having 3 elimination sequences would be better. So you say something like, Ok we've mixed these cards up, what was your number, count the 12 cards, and say, man it would suck if your card was in these 12, then bin them. Then ask the second spectator to name their card, ask them if they are really sure, and go ok we'll use these cards, count the ten of spades, and bin the remaing deck, then start the elimination process, binning them until the one card is remaining, would give the illusion youve just binned every card randomly except theirs.

Banger!

A Theory11 Star Wars deck! I have the blue backed one

Banger by the way 😮
