"Dude you fucked up your Ferrari"
"It's not mine"

That line has always stuck in my head, I love this film so much

This movie becomes even cooler when you imagine that it's actually a secret James Bond movie.

Hummel is easily one of the best antagonists in film history. An honorable man who is willing to do whatever it takes to ensure that those who died under his watch receive justice. The best villains are those that you can root for in spite of their methods.

"Nobody sees The Rock as a deep and thoughtful insight into the human condition," works on at least two levels.

Oh, man. As a violinist, I had the honor of performing on the soundtrack to this film. Composed by Hans Zimmer protégé Nick Glennie-Smith and recorded at the legendary Paramount scoring Stage M, it was a fantastic project to work on. Thanks for your review!

My favourite behind the scenes story from this film is when Sean Connery heard Michael Bay was having trouble with the producers so he invited himself along to a meeting and basically told them to stop pissing about and let 'the kid' as he called Bay, do his job, and everyone backed down because that is what you do when Sir Sean tells you to, and so what we got is a great example of what happens when you let directors and actors do their thing without interference from the moneymen.

When Mason tells his daughter "I'm not an evil man,  if you can believe that,  then that's a start..." makes him more sympathetic and relatable than any of the "modern characters" we're stuck with nowadays

“Mason, you alright?”
“Yes, perfectly okay you fucking idiot.”

Connery is such a legend. lol

We didn't realize hw good we had  it.

I think one of my favourite things about The Rock is the antagonist isn't the antagonist "Because evil", Hummel has a set of motivations that could make actually make sense but definitely is not good motivations. I also like how for large part of the film, we're never quite sure if Connery's character is on any side but his own, and that side just happens to coincide with Cage's character, or whether he is actually going to stick his neck out to help anyone but himself.
It's a reminder for me of how modern film is written for the attention span of a 6 year old; this person evil, this person good, they fight, explosions, good person win, while films like The Rock, with writing for actual adults, is able to achieve more development in it's opening then most modern Action Blockbusters.

Love this movie. And you can absolutely understand General Hummle's (spelling) motivation. The opening scene when he visits his wife's grave and his monologue show a man who has exhausted all options. But at the end when his bluff is called and he admits he can't murder thousands of innocent people is brilliant writing.

Not to mention it being Sean Connery's final Bond movie 🤣

“You’ve been asked by an old friend.  You’ve been ordered by a superior officer.  Now you’re being given your last chance by a man with a gun.”

God I love that moment.

4:15 very few actors in history have come close to the level of staring intensity Ed Harris conveyed in this scene. Legend.

Ed Harris is just a phenomenal actor . His performances are top notch.

And I don't remember a single strong, independent woman humiliating any of the highly trained, competent men.

Ed Harris is a legend. Mostly underappreciated. My favorite movie of all time is the Abyss.

Yet another great 90s movie that wouldn't get made nowadays because of......."the message......."
Absolute classic film

This movie was so much fun. I saw it in the theater with my brother and father. Sean Connery acting like an older Bond and Nic Cage acting like...well, Nic Cage...was awesome. This was the first Michael Bay movie that I saw before realizing what a Michael Bay film was. In short, THIS MOVIE ROCKS! (get it? no? ok).

Ah, when a daft film could be much better than it had any right to be. Happy days.

That fan theory about Connery's character being James Bond? It fits so well, but out of sentimentality I always imagined Bond would keep, ah, riding off in to the sunset with yet another girl forever.
