“You stink of fear but you’re not a coward”

That says a lot

'I let him kill me' has to be one of the greatest badass yet 'oh shit i'm terrfied' lines.

Lecter's drawings on the wall would fetch a handsome price if professionally matted and framed , sent to a reputable auction house, for collectors wanting killer artwork.

Lector: "What disadvantages?"
Will: "You're insane."

Lector: changes subject

I think one of the most fascinating things about these prison scenes is the differences between his interactions with Clarice and Will. With Clarice, it's as if he is making an effort to be gentler (in as much as it's possible for someone like Hannibal to be gentle). He still taunts and tries to manipulate her, but it's as if he...wants to mentor her.
With Will, that gentleness is nonexistent. There's a real, true hatred there. But also a genuine respect. He definitely enjoys talking to Will - but the eye contact, the tone, the body language, all reminds me of a caged animal. You can tell Hannibal's always imagining what he'd do to Will, if he could.

Will profusely sweating in his under arms is such a nice detail

He got him good with that “smarter than” line

People like Lecter cannot stand not being seen as the smartest in the room

Massive insecurity

Lecter's genius. Only took him an hour to deduce that the Tooth Fairy was choosing his victims by watching videotape. Of course he doesn't just come out and tell Will, just hides it in a clue.  Impossible to see his victims living before meeting them? Almost, not quite.

One thing I don't understand is a dialog change from the book.  When Lecter asks about his disadvantages, in the book Graham replies "Passion.  And you're insane."  I think this is a much more revealing answer that paints a better picture of the backstory.  If Lecter wasn't driven to kill as frequently and flamboyantly as he did, he likely never would have been caught.  Passion!

0:32 - it's so cool that they got Frankie Faison back as Barney even in a small role. The screenwriter Ted Tally actually said that if he'd known they were doing that, he'd have written more lines for him in the film(Barney doesn't actually speak or get mentioned by name in the Red Dragon novel), but they definitely made sure to get some good moments in for him just in reacting and emoting. Barney's definitely the most under-used character in the films given the scope and depth of his role in the second and especially third book!

Lecter got mad for a moment but later resumed his role as a mentor to Will

“I have oodles” 😂

5:17 Man, look at his pit sweat! He’s been absolutely terrified, but still kept his cool.

I just noticed that Will very nearly leaves the case file behind with Lecter. That can’t be a good idea.

As a former crim lawyer and profiler they way Will deals with lecter in this scene is textbook. Polite, to the point, firm, clear boundaries, 'no' without elaboration.

The secret is that there is no secret. Will didn't see it coming and he wasn't ready for it.

I worked in max prison for the really really challenging prisoners, most with mental illness.  No dungeon cells like this.  However they way he sat up with those dead machine animal eyes is what it looks like and feels like.

I'm very happy to say that the great Sir Anthony Hopkins is still with us to this day.  He must be around 90-ish by now, and I've never seen an actor movie villain as equal parts terrifying and strangely hypnotic as Dr. Lecter.  I rate him up with Darth Vader and Col. Landa (Inglorious Basterds' cheerful Nazi) in my Holy Trinity of the most complex movie villains of all time.

Dr Lector was described as a good guy trapped inside the mind of a psychopath.

I like he basically gave Hannibal the big middle finger once he started his mind games.
