The Leafs made a big trade with the Rangers in 64 and got the great Andy Bathgate who was a big part of the 64 cup winning team. We haven’t forgot Andy and his number 9 hangs proudly from the rafters of MSG.
I love the sounds of the game, the chatter of the crowd, the uninterrupted flow of the the play, and of course Bill Hewitt, without ‘an expert colour commentator’, in the first period. Thanks for sharing this, I am a kid once again watching this.
I am old and I love these old games. With that being said , I know that the game today is a totally different animal. You can not compare players from one generation to the next. You should just enjoy the great game and appreciate the fact that the players today are standing on the shoulders of the greats from the past.
watched the whole game...great stuff...i was 10 years old when this was played...my world was much smaller back then and these leafs were gods before my eyes...
Thank you so much for this! I really appreciate seeing these old games and hearing the voice of Bill Hewitt doing play-by-play. He was a great broadcaster.
Bizarre thing occurred while viewing this. I would have been 8 years old when this aired. Seeing Bob Baun’s goal in the second period as he got sprung on a breakaway after getting out of the penalty box, whiffing on a shot that somehow eluded Charlie Hodge anyway, I instantly remembered that I had seen that. I doubt I ever saw it afterwards since tape or film highlights were very rare back then. Amazing. Also interesting that while MLG announcer Paul Morris was always pretty stiff, he was really stiff in these days.
I was six years old when the Leafs won 🏆 the Cup in 67 so I at least got to see 👀 them win one 🏆 lol.. We always remember the first team we cheered for and these players on this Leafs roster are the ones I remember most. Unfortunately after 67 we hit the Ballard years and we took a nose 👃 dive although the Leafs had some pretty good teams especially in 71/72 and they were on the right track but they ended up losing a few good players to the WHA which set them back. The Leafs have a great loyal fan base and although I got to see 👀 them win 🏆 one I hope for this great ,loyal fan base they can win it all again for them 👍...
What a great game and good to see and hear all those famous names. This was when you could see the players faces [ no helmets ] and no scruffy beards. Give me this era any day of the week.
I had no idea who was in the Habs net for the first 13 minutes of this video The Leafs never came close I thought it was Plante. But it was a goaltender named Hodge
