In this video, you’ll learn how to automatically generate custom unique IDs in Microsoft Lists using Power Automate.
For this example, we use a Support tickets list and automatically generate Ticket IDs such as TICKET-L-00001, TICKET-M-00002, and TICKET-H-00003.
The ID is based on the unique SharePoint item ID, while the letter in the Ticket ID is automatically determined by the Priority of the support ticket.
In this video, you’ll learn:
How to automatically trigger a Power Automate flow when a new Microsoft Lists item is created
How to use the unique SharePoint item ID
How to initialize and use variables in Power Automate
How to use a Switch action for different Priority values
How to convert Low, Medium, and High priorities into L, M, and H
How to format a SharePoint ID with leading zeros
How to use the formatNumber function in Power Automate
How to build a custom Ticket ID such as TICKET-L-00001
How to automatically write the generated ID back to Microsoft Lists
Although we use support tickets in this example, you can use the same technique to automatically generate custom IDs for requests, orders, projects, cases, customers, and many other processes.
This tutorial is perfect if you’re new to Power Automate and want to learn how to create your own automatic numbering system in Microsoft Lists or SharePoint.
