In this episode we read from M. Windsor's 1878 book: "History of Jewell County, Kansas: With A Full Account of Its Early Settlements and the Indian Atrocities Committed Within Its Border."  This tells the stories of Mrs. Marling and Mrs. Ward.  These events motivated the US government to send General Hancock and General Custer out west to subdue the Cheyenne and Sioux Indians.
