Her contrast between the totalizing impulse found in metaphysical systems, Hegelian dialectic and individual solipsism and the freedom and love found in openness to others as full and contingent characters is remarkable for its time and even more for our time in which narrative has given way to snippets of click bait journalism. Glad to see Murdoch on the channel

I liked her presentation very much. The sirens with noise of warning had me thinking of Orson Welles 'War of the Worlds' 1938 radio performance. December 2024 has  a similar echo.

The echo of sirens (her voice)

Great lecture by Iris. I wonder did the car horns hooting in the background from time to time distract her or did anyone else notice in the audience. The car horn sounded particularly like what you could her in Humphrey Bogart movie or some Hitchcock thriller from the 1940s or 1950s.

There's so much here that the modern world rushes past, so much about reality ,form, symbolism, contingency, romanticism, the individual vs institutionalism: above all I noticed her pitting TS Eliot vs Shakespeare as forms of writers, artists in a very big sense. Eliot was a modern reaction vs. romanticism, as primarily a poet, drawing up and living according to the cannon of classicism: Shakespeare's strength
comes from his verse-making dramatically, not his poetry, his largeness of vision, his openness to the individual, to the openness to reality and the other through negative capability, before the 'disassociation of reality ' set in.

You have created an excellent channel. Keep going

Must be the summer, and they had to keep the windows and doors open. But the lecture is enlightening.

It is interesting how her lecture is structured so differently from the Youtube videos of today.

Her accent is beautiful ❤️

Useful reminder of the antidote to digital 'content' culture, endless tokens and nodes of the subject on inspection shelves.

Shame that Yale hosted her talk in the parking garage.

This was brilliant 😊

❤

I can imagine Gadamer saying Amen...

my favorite part was when that car was honking!

I respect her perspective for what it is.   Her dogmatic assertion that only realism can reveal truth, however, excludes fantasy and the mythic.   The truth of these works lies not in the perception of humans but in the perception of the human condition.

Who needs tik tok when you can listen to this

It would be most enlightening I am sure if I were on her interlectual wavelength, unfortunatly her words flow by me,mea culpa mea culpa.
