So fun fact about Golden Girls, to my knowledge every story Betty White's character tells about her boarding school days is something she would make up on the spot, and apparently she would get everyone just dying laughing to the point you can tell in some scenes the other leading ladies were desperately trying not to bust out laughing.

The coolest thing to me about Bea Arthur has to be her military service, she was part of the Marine Corps Women's Reserve. She enlisted in 1943 and was Honorably discharged in 1945 at the rank of Staff Sergeant. So thank you for your service Ms.Arthur

So, Bea Arthur, who played Dorothy, got her start on television in a cameo role as “Cousin Maude” in the episode of All in the Family “Cousin Maude’s Visit”. She shows up because everyone is sick and can’t care for themselves. Her performance was so outstanding it hugely impressed Norman Lear, who created, AitF, and CBS executives present at the time the episode was taped as well. She got her own spin-off sitcom, Maude , as a result, which lasted well into the 1970s, and it was where her and Rue McClanahan, who played Blanche on TGG first acted on the same show.

Lastly, Estelle Getty, who played Sophia, despite her character being the oldest on the show, she herself was actually the 2nd youngest cast member and they would have to apply many hours worth of makeup to make her look so old.

R.I.P. Bea Arthur, Rue McClanahan, Estelle Getty, and Betty White. Your time on this Earth may be done but the memories will last forever. 💔😢😭

I'll bet this is how Lilly's grandma acts and sounds as well lol

Don't underestimate old folks. They can and WILL scorch you like a California wildfire.

The golden girls are just Lilly with decades of savage burns. Makes them hilarious and dangerous lol

Forgot how casually this show was lobbing nukes😂😂😂

Media sterilization is what happened. You have to be sure not to offend anyone, be hyper relatable at all times, and appeal to as wide an audience as possible.

Remember Bea Arthur was a Marine in ww2. Thats where the savagery comes from

never watched the golden  girls but i've seen enough scenes to where i can tell that Dorothy don't give a fuuuuccccckkkkkk and just tells it how it is weather you liked it or not

My mother watched golden girls for most of my life so I was exposed to Dorothy’s savage roasts most of the time such fond memories 😂

Bea Arthur and Leslie Nielsen were the masters of stone-faced comedy! No one could deliver such outrageous, absurd, ridiculous, and savage lines with completely straight faces like them.

4:30 people forgot the wisdom of the phrase “Turnabout is fair play.” If everybody makes jokes about everybody, then nobody gets offended.

8:58 Stop…she’s already dead…😭

Dorothy always chose violence

one of my favorite shows of all time. as a boy i grew up watching this with my mom and sister. as i got older i realized the genius of it and the "re-watchability" of it. its my Gf and i's favorite show to put on before bed. im not the target demographic but Sophia Patrillo reminds me of my mother. quick witted and savage for NO reason.

The Golden Girls was an experimental idea that was meant to fill a time slot in the NBC saturday night lineup when most of the previous season was canceled due to low ratings. Expected to target little more than the age demographic of the actresses, the show saw unprecedented success in the 18-35 crowd, mainly because it was placed on a highly sought after prime time slot. The show was the staple of prime time on NBC for years to come and kept whatever programming block it was on afloat when most shows around it dropped like flies.

My favorite quote from this show:
“I don’t have a husband, call the police.”
“Your EX husband.”
“*I’ll* call the police”

The great Bea Arthur. "One hell of a Marine".

One of the best tv shows of it's time and all time.
