🎙️At 15, he discovered Japanese almost by chance.
A few decades later, Cyril Coppini lives in Japan, translates some of Japan’s most popular manga, and takes to the stage to tell stories through rakugo, a traditional Japanese performing art.
But his journey doesn’t stop there: in 2023, he performed at the Olympia in Paris.
Having lived in Japan since 1997, Cyril Coppini has built a career at the crossroads of two cultures, united by one passion: language.
In this new episode of Itinéraires Singuliers, he tells us how:
▪️ a simple Japanese class in high school sparked a passion that never left him
▪️ 5 years of intensive Japanese studies led him to fully immerse himself in Japan
▪️ his fascination with rakugo led him to learn this traditional Japanese art in an unconventional way
▪️ he adapted his stories into French to introduce rakugo to international audiences
▪️ his journey eventually took him to the Olympia in Paris, a legendary stage he never imagined he would perform on
▪️ his work as a translator, notably on Detective Conan, taught him how to play with words, nuance and humor
▪️ between Japan and France, he has become a true bridge between cultures
His story is that of a Frenchman who never planned on becoming a rakugo performer.
It is also the story of a man who followed his curiosity, learned at his own pace, and transformed his passion for a language into a career, a stage, and ultimately a bridge between two cultures.🎧🇫🇷🇯🇵
