SEGA had a fantastic library in general.

I rebuild these broken off ebay and sell them back to a local retro store. I only make 10$ on the trade back but idc because its something that keeps me busy and i like the idea of getting a system back up and running and hopefully back into someones hands who will enjoy it. ( i also do gameboy handhelds )

They were fluorescent tubes. That’s why the Game Gear ate through batteries.

This was my first mobile system to absolutely destroy batteries.. aahhh memories.. Sonic, Mickey's Castle, Evander boxing,  ren & stumpy were staples just to name a few.. 💯🇨🇦❤️

I still have my nomad from when I was a kid. Really like taking my sega games on a handheld. Have memories taking to a friend's house with a controller and playing it on their tv. I did get a laser bear battery pack for it, but would really like the rest of the face lift from Dr. Mod.

The Atari Lynx was backlit and debuted in 1989 along with the GameBoy… the year before the Sega Game Gear. The NEC TurboExpress was also backlit.

Would love a Game Gear with new screen,  long life batteries,  digital and analog TV tuner, and be able to use original accessories,  including the master adapter

Man my childhood GameGear needs tune up too. Its always crushing when you go to boot up an old console and it doesn't work

Awesome dr mod ! I have a game gear that needs the works done and a psp that needs a new game reader. I need dr mod to work his magic on both.

I had one of my Game Gears modded with a McWill screen  a few years ago and it makes playing the games a completely new experience. I don’t use it enough to need rechargeable battery packs as they wouldn’t hold a charge long enough between plays so AA’s are perfectly fine for me and the McWill screen seems to be more efficient than the original CFL backlit screen.

Just stumbled across this video, LOVE this content and seeing other people creations!! Others watching wanting to do the same…DO IT!! Research, take it slow start with small easy stuff build up your confidence. Worth it in the end.

Guys & Ladies, I DID it!!

I took a VA1 (single ASIC) Game Gear stole the chip & EXT port from it.

I then proceeded to install them both on to a v2 white SYF PCB along with RetroSix’ Game Slot ( a serviceable & swappable cart slot ) with RetroSix’ Retro Stick ( Analogue stick ) & Benn Venn HD v4 IPS. I’m also using white SYF power board with USBc connection powered by 2 12x40x50 3.7v 3200mAh LiPo rechargeable batteries. White SYF sound board with dual stereo speakers with the GGFM Yamaha sound module. Placed into a transparent sapphire shell, solid black buttons and grip for analogue stick, the Majesco lens ( black with white decals ) and replaced the red power LED with a foggy white LED. Waiting for the post to deliver the final touch, reproduced serial labels with a holographic finish with custom serial & model number 😊
