I went in hoping the reviews were unfair.... and soon found out they weren't! Shocking.

Three golden rules broken there, Gaz. Never eat at a store opposite a major tourist attraction. Never eat at a store calling itself "the Great British" anything. And never eat at a store that needs someone at the front handing out fliers.

Bro.... almost 50 pounds for that load of slop. Criminal.

My late father used to say, with fish and chip shops, there's more bad ones than good, and the better ones are the ones down the back streets, not on the sea front

What annoys me is that there are hundreds of decent fish and chip shops across the country struggling to stay afloat despite offering fantastic wholesome food then you come across a shocking tourist trap like  GREAT BRITISH FISH AND CHIPS who are raking in the money by offering utter rubbish. £4.50 for a catering sausage? They can see the tourists coming a mile away!!

As a Londoner it makes me inordinately angry that places like this can open in areas where tourists deserve to eat the best food we have here. Grrr…

I have a rule: A chippy advertising kebabs, chicken, pizza or anything else un-chip shop related, will invariably do terrible fish n chips.

This is why tourists think British food is awful and don’t understand how we love our fish and chips. When you get great fish and chips there’s nothing better.

Anything labelled Great British tends to be dire, as it relies on the name to sell.

As an Irish fishmonger for 40 years, a lover of good fish and chips, make your own. Buy fresh fish, wash it, dry it, Salt it, batter it, job done. I can absolutely promise you, that haddock has been frozen for at least a year. Let's get cooking at home folks, it's cleaner, tastier and cheaper. Love to Gary and all British fish and chip lovers from Ireland.

Hate these kinda places. They get so many 1 off customers in tourist spots that they don't make the effort to get any repeat customers.

What a shame that they are allowed to make a mockery of the national dish there should be a law against it

British Heritage should step in on these greaseballs for tarnishing the international brand to huck this crap to unknowing tourists. This isn’t real British food they need standards

The depressing thing is, for many tourists, particularly Americans, trying something so typically British as fish and chips is something they look forward to. This place is where it is knowing full well that it will be mainly tourists who spend their money there, being overcharged for what seems to be rubbish. I wonder how many come away feeling underwhelmed and disappointed, with no desire to try it again. This place doesn't care, simply because they know there will never be an end of tourists who don’t know any better. Another great, honest review Gary.

Gary, it's not unreasonable to expect in a tourist hotspot for the food to be of a good standard, it's disgraceful to fob people off with crap, because they deserve better. Well done and thank you.

Anywhere that advertises it’s ’the best fish and chips’ on its own is usually always rubbish. It’s sad because tourists are going to see that and taste it and get the impression that that’s what it tastes like everywhere. So glad you’re getting the word out about these restaurants.
