Today, we're heading to Canyon Lake before its major 54-foot drawdown, capturing the beautiful scenery while the lake is still largely full. With significant changes coming to this iconic Arizona reservoir, this is our opportunity to document what it looks like before the water level drops.

From the sparkling waters of Canyon Lake, we continue through the rugged desert landscape to the historic community of Tortilla Flat, then travel deeper into the Superstition Mountains to the breathtaking overlooks at Fish Creek Vista and Fish Creek Bridge.

Along the way, we'll take in dramatic canyon views, winding mountain roads, towering rock formations, and some of the most spectacular scenery in central Arizona.

The Canyon Lake drawdown is part of a major inspection and maintenance project involving the Salt River dam system. We'll discuss why the lake is being lowered and what this temporary change means for one of Arizona's most recognizable recreational destinations.

That was a really nice video...i graduated from meas high in 1977, probably before you were born and we used to go out to canyon lake and cliff dive go all over the place it brings back great memories...thank you.

Looks like Fish Creek is a fishless creek. On the way down to Fish Creek, I found out the brakes on my recliner were not working...I was hoping you'd slow down...Haha! Beautiful views.

I got to see the lake last time they drained it down. I spotted out some good fishing holes and have been successful at producing some nice size bass. Lol

tortilla flat's restraunt is a definite must eat at it's absolutely covered and then some with $1 bills on over 100% of all the lumber tge bacon cheeseburgers with cajun seasoned fries are a must try and another cool thing about the restraunt is it has actual saddles to sit on and eat insteas of using barstools and of course they have booth style seating also if a saddle isn't your style.. ut the food there is so good and made fresh so it's no nuked burgers like all the fast food chains have.. he fries are good no matter how you get them but thats why on the weekends it'll say packed and busy regardless of the lake being open or not people always take the scenic drive and start after eating and getting ice cream at the general store for desert before starting hei trek to Roosevelt lake especially in winter time and for bikers

How do you figure that "this end of the lake you're not going to see a lot of difference"? Water is going down 50 feet. That cove will likely be dry.

Ah,let's see. Powell down. Lake Meade at historic lows. Blue Mesa being drained to keep Powell and Meade "afloat". No pun intended. Sounds like a great time to drain a lake! Where do these idiots come from? Can't wait another year? Just incredible! Thanks for what may be our last view of another lake.
