Welcome back to the channel! In Solar Ebike Trailer Update 13, I'm tackling a series of unexpected maintenance challenges on my ebike and trailer. From a totally shredded front sprocket and a stubborn flat tire to cleaning up a "rat nest" of wires, it's been a busy few days in the garage. I also 3D print some new custom parts to improve the design and make everything more robust.
Here's a breakdown of what's in this video:
0:00 - Intro & Solar Controller Update: Redesigning the 3D printed housing to fix a small bump and improve security.
6:14 - Front Sprocket Replacement: The old sprocket with 8100 miles is razor-thin! I walk through the difficult process of removing the stuck crank arm, which involves a broken tool, stripped threads, and finally, cutting it off with a Dremel. I also show how to install the new, more affordable generic sprocket.
14:26 - Flat Tire Repair: Dealing with a flat on the rear wheel, I use the "sink method" to find the leak and patch the tube. I also discuss the benefits of thru-axles and get the wheel re-installed and inflated to 40 psi.
24:19 - 3D Printed Wire Case: I design and print a custom plastic casing to hide the messy wires on the back of my buffet motor. I go through multiple prototypes to get the fit, clearance, and mounting points just right.
32:03 - Final Assembly & Conclusion: The correct crank arm finally arrives from Amazon! I install it, the pedal, and the chain, and the bike is ready to ride again. I'm now gearing up for a major, long-distance tour in just a month and a half.
