3:05 it’s so cool that you are doing an orchestra conductor imitation right here.  Metallica did an album with the San Francisco Symphony.  The album was called S&M.  LOL.  There was a film of the same title as well.

"The lyrics discuss control of anger over one's behavior. However, the theme of the song is based around the San Francisco thrash scene in the 1980s. The most prominent club played by Metallica was the Old Waldorf at 444 Battery Street in downtown San Francisco. The lyric "Cannot kill the family, Battery is found in me" is a statement that society does not understand the scene and that those within it ("the family") will defend it as a show of solidarity against the glam metal scene that was popular in the Los Angeles area. The tone of the song is of familial ties and the positive release of energy through interest in metal."

This album is in the Library of Congress preserved for all time. That's how important it is.

Your understanding of how much Cliff was an influence on the band is amazing,

Lepper Mesiah needs to be next! Song is super applicable even today

The song refers to Battery Street in San Francisco, which was the heart of the city's thrash metal scene and home to the club The Old Waldorf. The lyrics also serve as a double entendre for a "battery" of artillery and the high-voltage energy of the band's fan base.

They used to call themselves Alcoholica. They were not sober at this time.

I'm happy to see you diving in to Metallica
You might have created a monster for yourself

The Battery is the collective force of the crowd pushing the boys forward, while they push the crowd forward.

I will continue to listen to the first four Metallica albums for the rest of my life!

This song is about a street in California where all the metal clubs were back when the boys were young.

Listening to metal is my release valve after a stressful day at work. Windows down, volume up, speeding through the curves of back country roads.

Seattle 1989 live... this track right here... is a must. Most powerful thing ever

This is a song close to my soul.  This was my family life.

Metallicas thank you to the fans. A battey provides energy. The musiic drives the fans, increasing their energy. That energy flows back into the band making them jam harder further increasing the energy of the crowd. An unbreaking circuit of power.

"Battery" by Metallica, opening their 1986 album Master of Puppets, represents raw aggression, the intensity of the 1980s San Francisco thrash scene, and the energy of their fan base. It refers to both "assault and battery" (violence) and Battery Street, where they played early gigs, acting as a tribute to their loyal "metal family"

Dude I love how you see and enjoy Metallica's creations in your own way, as we all do. I always thought there was a double entendre here: Battery as a power source, and also the legal definition of "Battery" ... these 2 meanings dancing around each other.

A “battery” is a military terminology for a small group of cannons and such. This entire album is anti war. This entire album is about ptsd and being in the mind of a soldier. “The battery is found in me” is the psyche of a one man army aka a marine. It can be applied to many things like religion or addiction but context is key, and that context is war.

This song has been a mainstay in their live setlist since it came out and it still is to this day.

The album "Master of Puppets" was released March 3rd, 1986.  Cliff Burton was killed September 27th, 1986.  Jason Newstead officially joined the band October 31st, 1986.

"Battery" and "Damage Inc" basically encompasses and describes not only the band and their history, but also Metallica's massive fan base as an unstoppable force to be reckoned with.  "The Family" is the band, their close friends, and their fans.

Speaking of, "Damage Incorporated" (last song on the "Master of Puppets" album) should definitely be on your list.
