You’ve Been Sanding All Wrong: Try This Instead!

In this video, I build an amazing DIY sanding block with a unique tightening mechanism, designed to hold the sandpaper firmly and securely while making sanding easier, cleaner, and more controlled.

Instead of making an ordinary sanding block, I wanted to create something that combines woodworking, metalworking, machining, woodturning, and jewelry-making techniques in one project. The result is a precision handmade tool built from wood and brass, with a mechanical tightening system that makes changing and tensioning the sandpaper simple.

One of the most interesting parts of this build is that I made and turned the components using a drill press instead of a traditional metal lathe. I shaped and finished the brass parts with simple workshop tools, demonstrating how much precision can be achieved without expensive machinery.

The brass hardware isn’t just for appearance. The tightening mechanism applies tension to the sandpaper and helps keep it securely positioned around the sanding block. Combined with the wooden body, it creates a strong, practical, and beautiful woodworking hand tool.
