I Bought a Custom Color 1980 Gibson Les Paul Custom From the Original Owner!

📚Description: A casual viewing of a Facebook group led to an incredible find of a factory original "green" Les Paul Custom from the original owner looking for help IDing what color it is. My first thought was Kelly Green or an aged Bahama Blue. According to the original owner, this guitar never started life blue like exposed on the neck; it was always green!
It seems likely there was a base coat of a bluish-green similar to how Silverburst has a silver basecoat and Candy Apple red has gold/silver. The original owner also states that he doesn't remember the binding ever being "white/cream" so it might be this had a yellowed clear coat from the factory to create this hue. That might make sense from a "trying to fix the seamline separation" stance. There is a lot of mystery here - next time I get a Bahama Blue Gibson in, I'll have to compare the colors in person.
At the end of the day - if it is Bahama Blue Aged... or a Mystery Green - both are very rare colors on a Les Paul Custom from 1980 so it is a win! Old photos from the 80s seems to suggest Randy's memory is spot on about it always being green though!
EDIT: 9-26-25 A 2nd one of these has been found in the UK serial 82980010 in the same blue/green color that has a slightly less-yellowed amber coat. My serial is 82980074 so they were crafted on the same day

The local guitar shop didn't have any of the diamond strap pins in stock, a guy in the shop came over to me and told me if I took the rubber seals off Grolsch beer bottles and placed one over the pin once my strap was on, it locked the strap, Im still using those seals to this day on my guitars, I look at it this way, Im buying a couple of strap locks that come with 2 free bottles of Dutch beer!
I went on a Grolsch factory tour in 1999 and told the tour guide about the rubber seals, he wasn't aware of this hack and gave me a Grolsch tracksuit jacket for letting him know something he didn't know about Grolsch.
I know it's not often you get to connect with the person who always owned a guitar, but this made this entire video really unique.
If anyone ever complains about that color, just tell them "Snot a problem".
But the best part of Randy's story is that his girlfriend bought it for him.
God rest her soul, that girl was a keeper.
