High quality protection filter has saved me on more than one occasion. Well worth the trade off for the extremely rare situation that it has a tiny effect on image quality.

Also remember lens calibration for each lens of your camera has that feature.  It's part and parcel with full frame and medium format DSLRs. It's a simple process. And don't use a filter when calibrating lenses as that can throw the process off if the filter isn't high quality.

Most mirrorless cameras have this feature, but the focusing method largely precludes the need for calibration. The same is true for live view/back screen view with DSLRs if they have that feature.

Autofocus is a fantastic feature, but not perfect. There is a statistical error rate.

Another interesting thing is that the more dense your photosites (pixels) are on a sensor, the more imperfections in a given lense (like vertical and lateral chromatic aberration) you will be able to detect.

Amazing breakdown - thanks so much for this. Re: the reco to go EFCS in all those scenarios; absolutely the case on the R6 mk3. Your R6 mk3 EFCS gets 14-bit dynamic range (same as fully mechanical shutter), but your electronic shutter (ES) drops it down to 12-bit dynamic range. However, that's not always the case across the board. For ex, the R5 mk2: both ES and EFCS maintain 14-bit dynamic range in the RAW files. (A caveat: There is a slight technical bump in noise from base ISO 100 - 500 on the ES, where the EFCS shows a slight touch less noise than ES (~0.5eV according to data from online testers)... but apparently, only in that low ISO range. Above ISO 500, the difference in noise on the R5mk2 ES and EFCS is said to be non-existent.) Also, about that relative < ISO 500 noise on the R5 mk2 ES, according to those testers, they refer to that noise as practically negligible. So ES on that particular camera is almost perfect, albeit not a Global Shutter like a different mfg. model has ;).  But maximizing use of the ES should push the overall lifetime of the camera far out into the future.

Idk but I've made it my mission to make everyone aware of and understand pixel pitch. High pixel pitch is the seemingly unknown boogyman of digital photography (and probably film photography but idk much about that).

Diffraction is when the light entering the sensor has a larger spread than the pixels can fully capture cleanly and therefore looks blurry. We've all dealt with this. Setting your camera to f22 doesn't result in the sharpest photo of all time, unfortunately. This is because the aperture at any given value spreads light the same amount, and the pixel density, known as the pixel pitch, affects this a lot.

For example, let's say at f11 on a 12mp full frame camera, the spread of light is perfectly captured by the individual pixels in the sensor. The photo looks nice and crisp; it just can't be blown up to large sizes for close inspection. BUT if you then switch to a 48mp full frame camera and try to take the same photo, all of a sudden you have 4x the resolution, but the spread of light that was perfect for the 12mp camera's pixels is now way too large for the 48mp camera. Pixel to pixel the sharpness is going to be something like (slightly less than) 4x worse. So you have to open your aperture to allow more light in in a straighter line to get similar sharpness/contrast, but that obviously comes at a cost.

This isn't much of an issue when talking about lower MP counts, the "sweet spot" is still like 2 stops below your lenses max, and to like f11 or even 16. But every time we move up in MP, that high end drops a little lower and a little lower.

On the Sony a7v, a 33mp camera, this limit generally starts around f8. On the Sony a7Rv, a 61mp camera, this limit starts around f5.6. That leaves about 2 stops of "perfect" lighting conditions.

Finally, because it matters to only the people still reading this; Every major brand BUT Canon uses Sony's sensors.

Great video as usual 👏👏 but please make the music volume lower. Idk why, but right now I see that other creators do that, too, but it's annoying. I have to lower my volume when there is music, and go back up when the person is speaking, it's like the loudness dynamic range of a movie 😭 Just look at the db meter while editing and keep talking and music segements the same ✨
