Orphaned young and shaped by violence before he understood it, Miyamoto Musashi fought his first duel at thirteen and never lost a single one that followed — against rival schools, rival swordsmen, and eventually against the most dangerous blade in Japan. This is the story of how an outsider with nothing became the most feared duelist in Japanese history, and why centuries later, his book on strategy is still read far beyond the battlefield.

A dramatized, illustrated retelling for storytelling purposes — for full historical context, see primary sources on the Edo period and Musashi's own writings, including "The Book of Five Rings."
