According to some sources, perhaps half of the Alamo defenders were slain outside the.walls by the Mexican cavalry.  Many of the defenders stayed because they were confident Houston/others would.rescue them. Also many defenders fought at the Alamo because they.wanted.Texas to become a.slave.state.  Mexico had abolished slavery. Both Travis and Bowie were slave owners...

The main reason Santa Anna raised the red flag of no surrender was because he had sent two unarmed soldiers with a white flag of truce to talk to them to surrender but travis ordered them killed with a cannon fire even though the were unarmed and with a white flag of truce. When Santa Anna saw that he got furious and said kill them all no prisoners but hustroy left that part out where they killed two  unarned soldiers .Travis screwed up when he ordered the soldiers killed .my universty proffessor told  me to get tge actual histroy at the library but that the book was hidden from the b
Public and. I had to have special permisson from my professor fot the library to let me look at it and under watchful eyes and i was forbidden to make copies of any content ..and had to sit where they could watch me .that happened here in San Antonio texas where i live not far from the Alamo. I was shocked to learn what really happened. My professor already knew this .and the reason i had to do the research is because we made a movie and i played the part of General Santa Anna .i learned that Santa Anna was not mexican his family was from Spain he jioned the mexican army and made high ranks very fast because of his bravery until he made himself the commander of all his armies and of mexico . He died of old age and was buried in his back yard one soldier stayed with him till the end and took care of him hes the one that buried him Santa  Anna had list a leg in the battle of Santa Cruz fighting the french army
