Shaykha Umm Anas is an Islamic educator, mental health counsellor and psychotherapist. She is the founder of Silah Institute, a member at PACFA (Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia) and is the first recognised Shaykha under the Australian National Imams Council.

With a Bachelor degree in Islamic law (Fiqh wa Usol Al Fiqh) from Kuwait University, Master degree in Islamic law (Fiqh wa Usol Al Fiqh) from Madina International University, and a Post Graduate degree in counselling and psychotherapy from the Australian College of Applied Psychology and recently a PHD student in Tafseer and Quran sciences in Madinah International university in, she became the first female member at ANIC as a shaykha and Islamic law counsellor in 2021.

Sh Umm Anas has more than 25 years’ experience in teaching, preaching, and researching in the field of Islamic law in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Sydney. Also she is a registered counselor and has been trained in a range of psychological modalities.

The conversation moves from Hadith rejection into the wider crisis it belongs to. What happens when followers become credentials and anyone with a camera can issue a ruling? This is why at the age of of 15 I decided that when I finished school, I’d go and study islam in Makkah and Medina from certified scholars and mashayakh. I used to watch these dawah bros a lot, especially post COVID because I thought they were combatting people who were attacking the Deen. And then I started seeing videos of these brothers attacking each other “fulan ibn fulan is a z!0n!$t” “fulan Ibn fulan is a dayouth” and then the only time they’d unite was against people who were attacking the Deen and Muslimah content creators, and then they eventually gave up combatting these people attacking the Deen shortly after Andrew Tate became popular and exclusively began attacking these sisters online with the excuse of “if we want to protect the Deen we should start from within and these sisters are the biggest threat to the ummah” and blah blah blah. Meanwhile there were brothers and sisters leaving the religion (may Allah guide them back to the straight path. Ameen.) after watching these videos of people claiming that they used to be Muslims but left and became an atheist or a Christian or whatever. And then these same brothers would go, start a podcast where they would have these useless discussions about men and women in Islam and they’re entire podcast would just be arguing about whether or not misyar marriage is halal or not, while none of the brothers or sisters have a qualification in sharia let alone have a certificate in the Arabic language. I was watching that from the age of 12 until the age of 15/16. Alhamdulilah, my older sisters pulled me out of that. While I did learn some things like how to combat some of these arguments against Islam and they like, the harm outweighed the benefit. My sisters warned me against such people, how they’d come on the internet, go to these debates and etc but don’t even hold a single credential in Islamic studies let alone attend Islamic schools. We really need to call out such brothers and sisters because they cause division and confusion especially to teenagers online. Young brothers will become harsh and radicalised and young sisters will become confused and angry and doubt their religion until they eventually leave it.

Muslim men and women who think they are religious please don’t judge other people. When we judge and look down on others and make insulting comments,those behaviors push away people from Islam. Please be compassionate and kind like our Prophet Muhammad (saw). Kindness and polite behavior draws people to Islam and not the other way round.

I think the problem starts with not knowing who the master is and who the slaves are. And then not understanding that the slaves are subservient to the master and not the other way around.
