Alte Schule, Folge 306: Rainer Braun zum 40. Todestag von Manfred Winkelhock und Stefan Bellof
Alte Schule - die goldene Ära des Automobils
29,070 views
In late summer 1985, Germany lost two of its greatest motorsport hopes within just a few weeks: Manfred Winkelhock on August 12th and Stefan Bellof on September 1st. Together with motorsport legend and commentator Rainer Braun, I look back in this episode at the careers, personalities, and unforgettable moments of these two drivers. Rainer, who followed them both for many years, shares personal memories, anecdotes, and the emotions of those weeks, which still resonate today. A conversation about fighting spirit, indomitable will, but also the lightness and laughter that characterized both drivers.
... Highlights of this episode:
Manfred Winkelhock's rise from the Scirocco Cup to the legendary BMW Junior Team
The spectacular performances in the Group 5 BMW and the Super Capri on the Nordschleife
Winkelhock's fighting spirit and his far too early death in 1985 in Mosport, Canada
Stefan Bellof's unconventional path to Formula 1
The legendary record lap at the Nürburgring and his breakthrough in Monaco in 1984
Rainer Braun's personal recollections of Bellof's carefree, cheerful nature
The rivalry and mutual respect between Winkelhock and Bellof
A look back at the "black weeks" in August/September 1985 – and why the two remain unforgettable to this day

Bleiben Sie gesund Herr Braun!
VG
