Oh my, this podcast helped me so much. My experience was not losing a child, but losing my expectations for my only son who was born severely brain damaged from inadequate oxygen at birth. I thought the pain would kill me and then I thought the anger would never leave me. He's now 42 years old and still lives with us. And I am so grateful he's my son. He has made me a better person. Please make no mistake, I am not wish this on anyone. And yet I love him so.

My son was 4 when he died of a childhood cancer. Such a fun little guy, full of life.  What helped me was faith and decades of time.  He helps me to this day. He, along with my parents and grandparents. If I really need help in a serious situation, I pray to them and I get the help I need. I think they are closer than we realize, they have a lot of influence, and are quite willing to assist us. Our reunion will be fantastic!

Anderson, I love your focus on Grief. It is so desperately needed. People act like we're not going to die. My daughter's death at two years old was life-changing for me. On the other side of Grief was ecstasy. I am deeply grateful for having the privilege of having her in my life. Keep up your great work. Life needs you!

Grief is the price we pay for love.

I was fortunate enough to have Dr. Pagels as a Professor not once but twice.  She was as captivating at 28 (when she first taught me) as she is now.  She has not changed.

Anderson, I met myself in the upstairs hall one night when I was in my 60’s. There she was, this younger me and we knew each other instantly. A great forgiveness came over the older me for that young mother who was feeling her way along as she grew with the roll of mothering. I previously had harsh words for her and her mistakes, but in that moment I had nothing but pure love and compassion and we have been friends ever since. I know it was me I encountered and forgiveness has brought us together in one physical form once and for all. That night I shall never forget. I am now 84.

My heart is broken for any parent who loses a child. Elaine was so articulate and Anderson gave her the opportunity to speak to us all 💔🙏

Two bright minds and hearts learning from each other, just beautiful.

Thank you both for this.

After having lost my fiancée to suicide, I find a sense of comfort from speaking with & hearing from others who have experienced a very difficult loss.

I was there when my dad died, the only one in the room… I have said the exact same thing about it: it was a privilege, it was an honor, it was one of the most important things I had ever done. People often look at you like you’re insane when you say those things. It helped me to hear you say it. Ty.

Thank you Anderson.  We are all with you my friend.

Your conversation with Dr. Pagels was a gift. Thank you.

My son passed away four years ago,.This interview is very good and explained so well how it is to deal with losing a child.

What an incredible interview.  Elaine spoke of her grief in such a sensitive and articulate way.  It gives me hope.  My husband and I lost our only son, Alan age 29 five years ago next month.  I related so much to both of your expression of your grief. Thank you.  Bless you both.

I’m a respiratory therapist. I witnessed so many people die. Every single time I saw a smile of joy before the body seemed to collapse in death.

Finally, something to listen to which is worth while. Thank you.

You are my favorite Journalist, Anderson,  because you have an open curious mind and a great understanding of what is important to share.
Thank you.

Thank you very much Anderson! This was completely cathartic for me. I broke down in tears for some reason; i guess, thinking about my only child; my precious 17 year old son, Ackah-Diazi, life and how blessed I have been, even through some grief and difficult times. I said a heartfelt prayer, finished watching and felt complete. Bless you both, for sharing such deep stories and insights of your lives! Stay strong, comforted, peaceful and loved always!💐🙏🏽 Love❤ Naa Kordei; from Accra, Ghana 🇬🇭

I lost my college sweetheart and first husband when we were 25 due to acute myelogenous leukemia. I took care of him for two years. He was so full of love and strength. It was painful but I am grateful to have lived those two last years of his life. There is life after death and he is still with me 46 years later. We communicate through dreams and psychic messages. Death is a portal to a light which I also saw when my husband died in my arms! I am so grateful. I have witnessed five deaths so far and it is a noble and solemn passage.

This was so lovely. Thank you both. I am 77 years old, live alone, and I miss my parents and my grandparents. All of them sort of hover around my shoulders and help me get through my own life. It's very odd, but almost comical, how grateful I am that they are not alive to see what the nation they loved and did SO MUCH for has become. Especially Dad, WWII veteran. I so hope he doesn't see it, or if he does, he shrugs a little bit, maybe chuckles, for sure jungles the change in his pockets and says he's also glad he isn't here. It's our problem, not his.
