Applied for the position as prison officer back in 1980 but quickly discovered how depressing and boring and the conditions and the working environment and pay made me not to even consider going ahead with the position and to this day I have never regretted it ie I became a firefighter! 😊
19 years in the job, covering various roles but started off on the landings, a hard career but very rewarding, 90% of the job is what comes out of your mouth, people skills are everything behind the walls
I cant view more than one episode a day as its pretty damn depressing stuff. I'm 71 & was in the army & its very similar to this, with Sgts (Screws) & Squaddies (Inmates). Food was better but still doled out. So I can identify with it. Today, everyone I've compared is very much better off, much more help & better prisons being built & a soldier's pay & food better.
A lot of these lads will be deceased now.Without unions the working class would be short changed rights are not always freely given. No system is faultless will be exploited.John had guts just wanted his rights better working conditions just a bloke trying to survive. The old screws kept control the prisons now no one is safe cons or screws.
Security risk all of them.any one having an issue with screw, should be dealt by outsourcing to furthest away from prison. That way dealt with correctly
The Wormwood Scrubs inquiry resulted in no charges against any prison officers involved in the MUFTI intervention. By the time of the Strangeways riot MUFTI was being replaced by the current Control and Restraint teams aka Tornado and by the National Tactical Response Group.
