As a European, I’m used to anthems that feel like... well, just war songs. But this? This is something else entirely. Let me know below your take on this origin story 🇺🇸

Some flags represent a religion
Some flags represent a crown
Some flags represent government
The American Flag is different. It represents the American people. All of those that live with it and the one's that have died for it.

The Fort McHenry flag is still housed at the Smithsonian. You can find pictures online. What's left of it anyways.

The stripes represent the original 13 colonies and the stars represent the current states and increases when we get a new state. The star spangled banner was written during the war of 1812 which is why there are 15 stars

It isn't just about the flag the point is if the flag wasn't flying that would mean our Country had fallen that is why they wanted to know if the flag was still flying

Respectfully, we never speak during our anthem… but singing along is always proper!😀🤗😇❤️

9:34   You have to remember this isn’t the revolutionary war, this is the war of 1812.

This is why we say Freedom Isn't Free 🇺🇸

Don't ever apologize for pausing a video when you are trying to talk yourself into understanding what you are watching. As Americans, we actually appreciate people like you who take the time to understand our history and learn that our love of our country is not a show, it is a love of what our people who have gone through hell to be where we are and WHO we are

The Washington quote is one of my favorites. I also love one from Thomas Jefferson: "A government big enough to give you everything you want is big enough to take away everything you have."

This is the story of why the flag is so important. The prisoners knew if the flag had been taken down, then there would be no America. The reason the were imprisoned and why they brothers had died would be for nothing.
That is a fact that we as Americans still acknowledge to this day, and why we are so passionate about our flag and country!
Your channel is awesome! Keep up the good work!!!

That line says it all. Land of the free and the home of the brave. We know that we have it good and we will never surrender it to any communist. Any socialist, anything less than Liberty and life and the pursuit of happiness. I am so proud to be a disabled veteran of the United States of America. Thank you, Flavio. This was an absolutely incredibly touching video. Thank you from the heart. Thank you! 🇺🇲🩷

This war took place in 1812, Britain tried to take us again. They had already sacked Washington and burned down most of the White House. It was a dirty and bloody conflict...but they lost again! And yes, to take the knee during the anthem was, not so long ago, a hanging offense. Can't do that now. More's the pity. We are told to stand, men remove their hats, hand over the heart, and NO talking. We never interrupt during the anthem

2:25 Yes it’s incredibly disrespectful to kneel during the anthem. You always stand with your right hand over your heart. I’ve seen numerous people react to this video and it never gets old. Freedom was never free.

You’re processing, a lot of people always initially think the story takes place in our revolutionary war, it’s more of an American Revolution 2.0 war where we had to make a point of standing firm in our sovereignty, this took after about a month or so after DC was burned. So it really played a pivotal part in defying defeat no matter the sacrifices.

The American flag in itself is unique compared to most flags, most flags represent some authority such as the government or a monarch. Our flag has developed over the years, initially in the early parts of our revolution where there still was sentiment to be British our flag had the Union Jack flag in the upper left corner and the 13 red and white stripes were formed as representing the 13 colonies. When the Declaration of Independence was set, our flag transitioned to the corner to replace the Union Jack with a blue background and 13 stars for 13 states. As we grew more states, at first so did our stripes but it was finalized to keep the stripes 13 in tribute to our origins as the former 13 colonies of the British empire. Add the fact we in some ways kept the colors, as it played a part in the vision of our young country: red for passion, revolution, and sacrifice, white for unity and purity, and blue for democracy and freedom.

So that night in Baltimore, the flag’s meaning itself transformed into a symbiotic of trust, for the people it is to honor those who fought and died for that flag to remain high, to recognize the sacrifices made so that you have the privilege to live in the freedoms passed down to your generation. To at the least uphold yourself as a citizen to preserve our liberties and freedom for the next generations. For soldiers, it represents home, the people, and our liberties to protect. The biggest mistakes foreigners make is thinking the flag represents the United State’s government, when it is actually about the republic of the people of the United States.

We may not have riches, nor the historic civilization like most countries around the world, but to us the American flag is precious, there’s customs and etiquette with our flag, most known is to make sure it never touches the ground. Had the privilege to visit certain historical sites in the east these past few weeks, the last place I went was to the Smithsonian where this flag resides. Biggest honor to have seen it, it’s larger than I expected, even though parts of it was removed for souvenir sake, but the majority of it remains in the Smithsonian. Sadly no photography allowed, but one if the most moving parts of the whole trip, next to seeing the Declaration of Independence with the other documents at the Archive like the Constitution or the Magna Carta the Brits gave to us for our country’s bicentennial celebration. Just knowing to see what others see as a piece of clothes have so much meaning to the spirit of our country, it is very dear to us.

I appreciate you not cutting out the parts where you were putting the pieces together out loud.  You know your American history better than a lot of Americans.  Thank you!

17:55 the red in the stripes represents the blood spilled to gain our freedom and the blue with the stars chosen to represent the states also represents the heavens because god is who gave us our rights from birth and we spilled blood to protect and keep them. The flag is like a prayer to god to continue to bless us with the ability to protect what he created.

Yes taking the knee is definitely an insult

I have seen this video before and I .cry everytime the anthem is played. America and its freedom mean everything to me.

And President Trump  introduced to us on the 4th of July  a descendant of Francis Scott Keye. That was amazing!❤
