Everyone is always astonished by how Grosjean survived his fireball crash.... But how Berger managed to survive his without 2020 safety is honestly twice as mind blowing.🤯

Grosjeans crash always stays with me. It was the first time I ever watched F1, turned it on right before the race started, and then THAT happened....been hooked ever since

Will never forget that horrific Berger crash in ‘89. Was watching it live on tv and remember my dad instinctively saying “He’s dead!”

Your voice whenever you speak of Lance Stroll's name gets me laughing everytime.

thats beautiful use of that george meme well done

That Grosjean crash gives me goosebumps to this day... to even think he was trapped inside a wall and still in his cockpit is unbelievable

12:53 was behind the grandstand for this crash, as an isack fan, I was genuinely terrified because all you could hear was a massive slap and thud. We were all so glad he was okay.

Berger's crash in Imola '89 was so scary. It's honestly a miracle he managed to survive that and I'm so glad that he did.

While no TV coverage that I know of, David Purley's practice crash at the 1977 British GP has got to rank as one of the most destructive as it effectively ended the LEC team and nearly ended David Purley : He survived an estimated 179.8 g when he decelerated from 108 mph (173 km/h) to  a small ball of wreckage in a distance of 26 inches (66 cm). For years the crushed tub was displayed at Donnington Park,  a memorial to a true hero.

As more of a NASCAR fan where the drivers are more protected the open cockpit of Indy and F1 always terrifies me. I know the halo exists but I would just absolutely fear that thing failing on me one day. The fact people walk away from some of these wreaks where the car is completely obliterated in F1 is nothing short of a miracle.

Grosjean’s crash comes to mind for things like that.

Gerhard bergers crash felt very similar to sennas crash, fly high ayrton🕊

George russle edit is hilarious. Well done

The commentator being supremely British and completely underselling the absolute madness unfolding infront of his eyes during Berger's crash. It's wild to think they'd seen things so much worse, this wasn't much to get worked up over.

I’m so grateful that he didn’t cover the deadly crashes

Last tidbit about the Villeneuve crash: Before and during  the weekend he and his teammate eeked each other into going full throttle through Eu Rouge during the race, something the cars of that time were actually not capable doing.
To the Berger crash, he himself said just after the crash: If nothing changes that corner will claim a life ... and sadly he was right

One of the most important safety features is the survival cell, or monocoque. This extremely strong carbon-fibre structure surrounds the driver and is designed to remain intact during a major crash. Other parts of the car are designed to absorb and disperse crash energy, reducing the forces transferred to the driver. Modern cars must also pass strict FIA crash tests before they are allowed to compete.

The Halo is another major safety improvement. Introduced in Formula One in 2018, the titanium structure protects the driver's head from debris, barriers, and other cars. Although it was initially controversial because of its appearance, the Halo has since demonstrated how effective it can be during serious crashes. It provides an additional layer of protection around one of the driver's most vulnerable areas.

Drivers are also protected by highly advanced personal safety equipment. Modern helmets are designed to withstand severe impacts, penetration, and extreme temperatures. Drivers wear fire-resistant suits, gloves, boots, and underwear, which provide protection if a car catches fire. The HANS device also helps protect the head and neck by limiting dangerous movement during a crash.

Formula One circuits have become much safer as well. Modern tracks generally feature large runoff areas, improved barriers, debris fencing, and energy-absorbing systems such as TecPro barriers. These features help slow cars down and reduce the severity of impacts. Dangerous areas around circuits have also been redesigned to provide drivers with more protection if they leave the track.

Emergency response has improved enormously. Formula One races have specialised medical teams, rapid-response vehicles, medical centres, and strict procedures for dealing with accidents. When a crash occurs, trained personnel can reach the driver quickly and provide immediate assistance. Safety Cars and Virtual Safety Cars can also slow the field down when there is a dangerous situation on track.

The FIA continuously analyses accidents to improve safety. Data from crashes can be studied to determine how the car, circuit, and safety equipment performed. This information is then used to develop new regulations and technology. As a result, Formula One safety continues to improve from generation to generation.

The difference between modern Formula One and the sport's earlier years is enormous. In previous decades, cars had much weaker crash protection, circuits were more dangerous, and drivers had considerably less protective equipment. Today, multiple safety systems work together to protect drivers.

Formula One can never be completely risk-free because of the extreme speeds involved. However, modern F1 is remarkably safe considering the forces and speeds involved. Strong survival cells, the Halo, advanced helmets, HANS devices, safer circuits, improved medical response, and strict FIA regulations have transformed the sport. Modern Formula One proves that even while cars continue to become faster, safety technology can continue to advance alongside them.

The cockpit of the cars seem to give every driver an opportunity to survive even the most horrible crashes.

Berger's crash is almost identical to the one that ended Senna 5 years later.  It should have been a massive warning to the sport that this kind of racing was unsustainable.

I think another honourable mentions should be Seb buemi when his wheels decided they had enough and went to space

From 1953-1955 Le Mans was part of the WDC and surely the 1955 crash involving Mercedes takes the worst crash being it resulted in 181 people dying
