Many people ask me why a good artist doesn't become successful. In most cases, when I look closely, it wasn't an artist. It was a great musician, sometimes a great singer, a guy with a lot of technique, and it's not the same thing.
In this video I talk about what separates one from the other, which in my view is:
personality and the ability to make the music resonate with the listener. I talk about the medium, which is a subject that almost no one addresses: you can do very good work within a style that doesn't have playlists, doesn't have radio airplay, and doesn't appear on television here. I love blues, and Brazilian blues doesn't have a medium in Brazil. Artur Menezes is a fantastic guitarist and went to build his career in Los Angeles.
I also talk about the algorithm, which favors what is visually appealing and has filled the internet with clickbait. I talk about image, which has nothing to do with being beautiful or ugly, but rather with stylistic coherence. And I talk about limits, which is a subject that nobody wants to hear about.
Comment below what you think. I read and respond as much as possible.
Chapters:
00:00 Artist or musician
02:27 The blues and the problem of the vehicle
