Detectives Closed Her Case. Her Mom Knew Something Was Wrong

In the summer of 2023, a father told his seven-year-old son to go check on his mom in the bathroom. The little boy walked in to find 29-year-old April Holt unresponsive on the shower floor, a plastic bag taped tightly over her head. Police quickly closed the case, officially ruling the tragic scene a suicide. But April's mother knew her daughter was preparing to file for divorce and she flat-out refused to believe the official story.
Refusing to give up, her grieving mother launched her own investigation. She battled the system, demanded records, and eventually uncovered a buried 47-page police review report containing one chilling detail. The fingerprints on the plastic bag and tape didn't belong to April. They belonged to her husband, Donovan Holt.
Donovan was arrested in Texas in September 2024 and charged with reckless homicide, tampering with evidence, and making a false report. He pleaded guilty to all three charges and was sentenced in February 2025 to two years and one month in jail followed by eight years of community corrections. Jamie has since continued advocating for families who believe something is wrong with an official death investigation, helping push for changes to Tennessee law that give parents greater access to information and the ability to request another review when an adult child's death is under investigation.

This case suggests some serious incompetence in the police department and district attorney's office. Someone needs to investigate that incompetence.
