What happens when you grow up in a devout Jehovah’s Witness family, struggle to fit in, and find yourself repeatedly pushed out by the very people who are supposed to love you unconditionally?
In this episode of Seeds of Awakening: EXJW Tales, Kirby Scruples shares her powerful and deeply personal journey from a childhood inside the Watchtower organization to questioning the beliefs she once held as the truth.
Kirby describes herself as an artsy kid who never quite fit into any social circle. Although she was a believer, the fear of being disfellowshipped kept her from getting baptized for years. But her journey would take some painful turns. Her parents kicked her out of the house twice—the first time leaving her homeless. After the birth of her daughter, Kirby eventually got baptized, hoping to find her place within the faith. Yet she was kicked out a second time because her lifestyle didn't meet her parents’ expectations of what a Jehovah’s Witness should be.
Even while Kirby was mentally in, something unexpected began to change everything: her own mother started sending her videos. What followed would challenge the beliefs Kirby had held for so long and lead her to question whether the organization really had the truth.
Join us for Kirby’s story of family rejection, homelessness, motherhood, spiritual awakening, and the difficult journey toward seeing the Watchtower organization in a new light.
Can you be raised to believe you have the truth—and still discover that the truth is something entirely different?
