The paper boy alters the fawlty towers sign because basil gives him a hard time for being late

Watching as a kid Manuel saying 'she go crazy!' was the funniest thing in the world.

00:48 Basil is referring to the "gentleman" at reception being like a caveman/gorilla style character with his macho appearance/clothes.

He looked down onto his hairy chest. Basil basically indirectly called him a hairy ape by asking about bananas.

Prunella Scales who played Sybil died recently. She and her husband were great Shakespearean actors. She once said if Fawlty Towers was her best she'd be disappointed.

32:07 Manuel just casually chilling with an ice cream cone.

Sybil's little march on the way hitting Basil is perfect.

A lot of TV was like that then (70s), essentially shot like a play or live theatre. You can tell how well choreographed the show is when there are a lot of moving parts as characters interact with each other and two lots of dialogue is being spoken at once.

To this day, "Benzedrine puff adder" is one of my favorite insults!

The banana comment is suggesting he is an ape that's unevolved

The little kid messing with the sign is the newspaper delivery boy that Basil berated in the first episode for always being late. This is how he gets his own back!

The "Speaking Clock" was a telephone time service you could call up and it would give you the time to the nearest 15 seconds... "At the tone, the time will be 3:17 AM and 15 seconds... BEEP."

When Sybil is talking on the telephone, she's presumably talking to her friend "Audrey", whose abusive husband "George" probably punched her in the face, which is why she's got a nose bleed and Sybil is telling her to "hold her head back so the blood doesn't get on the bed spread". 😵‍💫😵‍💫

This is my all time favourite episode of Fawlty Towers, it’s also one of the only times Basil actually stands up to Sybil

Also I love how throughout this episode Manuel is just chilling waiting until someone (usually Basil) needs help with something

I believe the kid mixing up the sign at the beginning was the Paper Boy who Basil scolded at the beginning of S1 E1!

"We're quite normal down here in Torquay you know"

Nicky Henson (RIP) was one of John’s closest real life friends and a really lovely man by all accounts. The list of Sybil’s mother’s phobias is just a small selection (taken from an extensive list) of John’s mum‘s phobias. He lists them all in his autobiography and read them out on The Graham Norton Show 😅

I think the kid changing the letters on the sign is the paper boy who Basil had issues with being late in the first episode Basil pointed at his wrist watch when he brought the papers late.
