Nice town, I hope the internet doesn't ruin it.

People don’t believe this, but there was a time when visiting places like kanab, Moab, escalante etc was fun and enjoyable. That time ended back in the 90s.

It’s Sept 2026, we just spent 5 days in Kanab. Perfect place to stay to see a lot, with very little hikes. Day 1 did the Mt Carmel scenic drive, east to west, stopped at several overlooks, did the short Canyon overlook trail hike just off the road (it’s a must), ending in Springdale for lunch. Did not fight the crowds and shuttle into Zion, not needed. Day 2, did an Expedition Kanab UTV tour to Peekaboo Canyon and Great Chamber Loop, BY FAR the best way to see Peekaboo. Short hikes, blast driving the UTV. Day 3 Bryce Canyon. We drove their scenic drive all the way to the end, then stopped at all the overlooks coming back out the park. Best way to see Bryce without long hikes and never fought crowds. We  stayed away from the first main stop that everyone stops at, and we saw the whole view. Then drove to Cedar Breaks Natl Monument, another scenic drive, then back to Kanab. Day 4 drove to Lake Powell Antelope Canyon Marina, took a jet ski out for the day to see the lake and canyons (next time I’ll get a small boat, water is kinda rough for a jet ski). Then last day left Kanab, drove to the south rim of Grand Canyon , drove GC scenic drive SR64 west from 89, stopped at several overlooks, stayed in Williams AZ, next day took a helicopter ride thru GC. And got to stroll Williams AZ, Route 66 town, it’s cute, and rode the Canyon Coaster ride, it was fun.
Kanab is a good central place to stay to see a lot of places.
In Kanab we stayed at a AirBnB Southwest Sol, cool place, better priced than a hotel. Eats: must try Escobar’s Mexican Restaurant, Lotsa Motsa Pizza, and a nice stop was Once upon A Time in America Museum little western town, with restaurant and bar.
Short town hike was Sand Caves and Dragon Belly. And of course if hiking is you thing there are tons of longer hikes.

Just back from a few days in Kanab, I love it there and the little rock shop at the end of town is great.

Wow!!! Another great video.

I stayed in Kanab in September of 2020 and again in April of 2026. Little bit of a difference, but still loved it. The crowds were more at the parks than in Kanab. I’d definitely stay there again.

For those wondering, you do not need any permit or pay any fee to film in a National Park for monitized content creation provided you hand held devices, a crew smaller than five, stay in public areas, and don't impede or disrupt the park.

We have driven through Kanab several times going from one national park to another national park, but have never stayed in the town. Seems like a nice town.

We stayed in Kanab in 2024, like you said as a base for GC north rim, Bryce, and Zion.  We really liked it.

We stayed in Kanab back in 2017 and really enjoyed it. I didn’t know it was popular back then. We camped there right by the Arizona border so my iPhone kept loosing track of the time because of daylight savings.
We enjoyed seeing the toadstools.

I believe parts of the first planet of the apes movie and a lot of the old gunsmoke TV series were filmed there

Sounds like Kanab is becoming the new Moab. 🙁

Apparently they filmed scenes from Back to the Future 3 there

We really enjoy Kanab beautiful little town. I wish Green River Utah  would take some notes it's a brilliant jumping off point for many activities Green River State Park is a great home base fantastic camp ground clean bathrooms with showers and the staff are great.

I drove through Kanab 4-5 times on the way to and from Bryce Canyon (my favourite of the mighty five). It is a great place to fill up my car and also my stomach! Never stayed a night but would love to! I heard there is an animal shelter or something like that. Kanab is in a central location but literally so far from everything.
