The long awaited collaberation between acollieralso and Angela Collier!

Back in my day, when someone said they hate genders and can't keep up with all the pronouns, it meant they were learning German.

My favorite Faust:  Homer Simpson sells his soul to the devil for a donut.  But Marge reveals a photo of their wedding where Homer promised her his soul already.  It's beautiful.

I was sad that you said you wanted to step away from physics videos for a while, but I changed my mind. I still love the physics stuff but "Angela reads books and then accurately rants about fascism" is my new favorite show.

Regarding "he's just seeking knowledge" - I think you'll find the original Faust more understandable if you image him as a modern day tech bro.

Angelas reaction to Faust 2 is the reason why in german schools we only read part 1.

I love that "not a doctor" has been extended to "not a book doctor"

My dad learned German to read Goethe and study why the Weimar Republic failed. If he were alive today this video would be more his shit than any other video that has ever existed. It really made me remember fond memories of him, thank you for it.

“Faust, I’ll say it, is a bad guy.” Finally someone willing to speak up.

Angela managed to go from "I'm reading Faust" to "Python the programming language is really important for science" in a single coherent video. I'm here for it.

"God sends Mephastopheles to run a Job on Faust." lol

I'm sorry, but saying you want knowledge, but pivoting immediately to slaying your enemies is a very Academic mood.

I feel like mispronouncing a word that you've only read and never heard spoken out loud is very endearing. It means that you're reading about things that aren't accessible within your existing social circles, and that's like the whole point of books.

I'm about 1 hour into the video and I'm half expecting a transition where angela is like "I learned german"

Chapter timestamps. Let me know, if I missed any and I will update.

The small character sketch of who's a Mephisto in the US in 2025 was interrupted for me by an ICE recruitment ad

It is strange as a kid, thinking that the Nazis were like, some ruthlessly efficient form of "pure evil," and realizing as a grown up that they're all just nauseatingly intellectually lazy, and any time something doesn't line up with their intellectually lazy worldview, they just want to do violence towards it. Or to look away while someone else does violence towards it.

"They move here, they become my ancestors, and also my problem." I laughed so hard I had to pause the video

"mephisto" as insult now unlocked, thank you

I've been on a bit of a cosmic horror kick lately, and I can't believe it took me this long to connect those tales to Faust.

If anything, they align with our pop culture understanding of Faust more, because it's generally the knowledge a cosmic horror protagonist learns that destroys them.
