1969 give or take, is when rock music went from being all about the music to flashiness, big venues and stressing the visuals at concerts. It was no longer just about the the purity of the music.
I'm not knocking it, cuz I was a teen through the 70's and lived on guitar rock, but the real experimentations and maturation of rock music happened during the 60's.

Very nice and well done, this hits home with me! I would like to point out that at 33:10 when you show Littler Richard's Upsetters that you didn't show Hendrix. He's in that Buddy & Stacey version of Shotgun but was farther down the lineup, and left handed!

My favorite episode so far! I find a lot of modern rock boring, probably because the musicians have abandoned the blues roots and replaced it with electronics. Rage-filled, yes, so I suppose it still appeals to many people, but the sexiness is missing. I miss the elaborate guitar solos. Grunge didn't have the solos, but it still had the blues roots, and I loved grunge and still do. But newer genres, such as nu metal and a lot of the "butt rock" groups have lost it, and the music comes across as petulant and uninteresting to me. I'm not too interested in punk for similar reasons; I can appreciate the reasons for punk, but the music doesn't appeal to me, aside from a few bands such as Bikini Kill, the Linda Lindas, and L7.

Why are some of these episodes so chopped up?

This is a pretty good episode.  Too bad they had to end with only actual Satanists to become Rock Royalty.  Hendrix was never like that.  Blues is about survival not about death, and Zeppelin paid the price.
