I have the loud-cut mono mix and I understand that Giles Martin used this as one of his inspirations for this new stereo mix.

Good analysis

The reason why the extras/outtakes are a bit on the thin side is because Rubber Soul was
Recorded very quickly so that's why it's mainly instrumentals

I will buy it as I have the other box sets. You get a nice book and it contains a mono cut and the American version. Agree it will likely end up on the shelf long term.

I just listened to this today: I’m floored. Wonderful! The old stereo is weird. I have the mono box set:nice, but not for me. This opened up the album.

And I'll tell you something else! - The whole album has not been limited !! Loads of headroom and dynamics. More than Revolver! :) :) :)

At the beginning you said it’s a “remaster”. It’s not, it’s a re-mix”. You also forgot mention let it be, another great re-mix by Giles.

If it came out a year ago when it should have I probably would have bought it but I'd lost my copy and got fed up with waiting for this and so bought a reasonably priced reissue.

Giles Martin brings a lovely shine to his mix. BUT. I think that George Martin, Geoff Emerick, and The Beatles' mixes from the sixties (mono version) bring that je ne sais quoi (I do not know what) to the dance. I sound like an old fuddy-duddy, I know. I won't apologize. The outtakes are lovely, but they are sketches, not paintings. That has some value, I guess? A pixel copy online of the Mona Lisa is beautiful too, but it's not the same as standing a few yards away from her at the Louvre. History has value. BUT again. The new mixes of all the Super Deluxe Sets are well done, and I enjoy the occasional visit. Classic is always the original. Be it a '65 Mustang, or my first car, an Austin Cambridge, or the mono '1965 Rubber Soul.

My take on these releases is, it’s your money your decision. Rubber Soul is one the greatest albums ever. Happy listening 😊

liked and subscribed I did

Too late if remix isn't better. My blu ray audio 🎶 only version arrived today 🙂

I had the same take away over the last few releases... the out takes really are less and less interesting. not as many stand out outakes that are worth listening many times over.... I am listening now, so maybe you get to it... whats better or worse compared to 2009?

The original Beatles catalog had the involvement of all four Beatles, George Martin, and whatever engineers worked on the records. Those are authentic. Anything that has been altered and did not involve that group of people is inauthentic. If that's what the modern audience prefers, fine. Eventually, the original authentic recordings will be deleted from the catalog, and replaced with the inauthentic recordings. And no one will know the difference eventually because everyone who worked on those records, or heard the originals will be dead and buried. Future generations will know a different Beatles than what people of my generation knew. It's sad, really, because this was the biggest act in entertainment history, and we don't care enough to preserve what they did in the form in which they did it. But, no reason to stress over it. One day it will all wind up in a landfill where it will rot away long after man is gone from the planet. All that time and energy and money gone to waste. And no permanent authentic record of it left.

Kinks>Beatles

Rubber Soul is my favourite album of all time but I just couldn’t listen to the stereo version with my ear phones on because of the instruments in one ear and vocals in the other it drove me nuts 😂… thank goodness for the mono mix  I have had since 2009.

I have listened to this new mix on Spotify today because I haven’t got the remix yet myself…I am getting the boxset for my birthday which is 26th October.
I am over the moon with the new mix finally no more instruments in one ear and vocals in the other happy days 🎉

"Remaster" and "Remix" are not the same things.

There is an interview with Giles Marin about this release right here on Youtube.  In it he defines each.

A "Remaster" is like cleaning a window.  Removing tape hiss is an example.

A "Remix" is modifying the relationships among the sounds.
