Honestly, some of the most infuriating things to come from this off season is basically any news about this dude

i wish i can be offered $200M after fking up in the playoffs

This is why regular season stat lines should always be taken with a grain of salt. Not only do you play lots of weak teams, almost everyone is only going at 70%, because it's a long season and they need to reserve something in the tank for the playoffs. The post season is when you see who's the real deal, and Duren flamed out badly. He got outplayed by Wendell Carter in R1, and then by Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley in R2. The physicality that looked so impressive in the regular season vanished in a puff of smoke.

Duren demanding 40mill a year reminds me of Deandre Ayton demanding Luka money from Phoenix, despite being nowhere near that calibre of player. He hasn't earned it, he doesn't deserve it, and Detroit shouldn't entertain it. The last thing they need is to be saddled with another Andre Drummond, or worse yet, their own version of Ayton.

He tends to end his dribble too early.  He often puts up a move and hold on to the ball before he confirms that he actually got by the defender and end up no where to go but to throw up a prayer, or a last second pass.

Jalen saw Deandre Ayton being called "the league's most delusional player" and was like "hold my beer"..

65 game rule got him thinking he’s Jokic ☠️

Do you know how little that narrows it down?

Watching some of these playoff clips again makes you remember just how bad it was. Pistons fans were begging the coach to sit him.

Guys whose drives always end with a one foot jump are never effective in the playoffs lol. His game is predicated on power since he doesn't have overwhelming length or touch for his position but he only knows how to leverage that power with downhill force with the occasional spin move, all while not being a good enough ball handler. He needs to work on his hands, add some jump stop pivots maybe, and at least have a serviceable short hook shot to even be qualified to think he's as good as the contract he's demanding will mark him to be.

Another thing about the weight clause was that Duren has admitted to not being in great physical shape and that it was speculated that he got in good shape to get a good contract. So this was the organization’s way of making sure that Duren doesn’t get lazy/undisciplined and go back to his old habits.

so, smaller Shaq, without any of Shaq's skills. what a bargain!

duren has improved as a shot creator, being able to drive in space against slower defenders and leverage his downhill strength. he can initiate handoffs, run PnR, be an elite lob threat, and hit cutters when the game isn't moving too fast. Not a creative finisher around the rim, but dosen't have to be thanks to his physical tools, despite leaving much to be desired on certain finishes. His touch as improved as well. But he still can't handle in traffic, can't shoot at all, and has no mid post game to go to. He has to be set up in order to actually be efficient. He dosen't play off two feet and has no counters when he's cut off. He can shy away from contact. His touch can still be up and down from time to time, and no floater. As a defender, he's 6'10 with a 7'5 wingspan but dosen't leverage it in the best way. He has trouble being up at the level of the screen against elite pull up shooters, and turning his hips to stick with the handler. He relies on his length too much, and going up with verticality isn't consistent with him. Off ball, he can be late to rotate or to contest shots. There's a lot of spacy-ness going on when he's not involved in the action. He's a bad defender, who dosen't produce that much on that end, but still offers very good flashes of what he could be if he just stayed locked in. Fouling is an issue too. Not switchable. Physical when he's boxing out and fighting for rebounds, but his rim protection technique and cat and mouse game are problematic. Because of the shooting issues, him and ausuar have to run PnR repeatadly to make the defense commit to one or the other as a driver or play finisher. Both being non shooters mucks up the offense. He just dosen't apply his tools in the most productive way.

Duren is just big and a decent athlete. If he can’t physically impose his will he doesn’t have a counter. Then defensively he isn’t a dominant rebounder or rim protector. He got rewarded with stats for playing hard in the regular season.

Signed literally 11 hours later

he's a 19 and 10 kinda guy during the regular season who ends up scoring half of that in the playoffs. he's just a normal starting center, so idk what makes him think he's special as fuck??

It's so crazy to me that miami bron was the size of this guy and was moving like a beast

Time will tell as we say ! Great analysis thank you for explaining to us the little details

Best breakdown of why he was such a bum in the playoffs vs regular season hero.

Potentially angling a move to the KINGS is crazy work 😅

Great content. thank you !
