Why the Biggest Vtuber in History Vanished (Again)

Rima Evenstar

306,022 views

She broke every record in VTubing history in just three days. But within months, the biggest debut of the year faded into complete silence.

Sameko Saba's return was supposed to be the ultimate indie triumph. It was proof that a creator could walk away from a massive corporate agency and still hold all the power. But behind the unprecedented numbers and top-tier production lies a much more complicated reality.

What happens when one of the most anticipated returns on the internet suddenly goes dark? This deep dive explores the real cost of absolute freedom, the hidden weight of audience expectations, and what a creator truly owes the internet.

She made the right decision to never share too much about her private life and to stay the hell out of Twitter. It's the smartest thing you can do in that business. Everyone should follow that example tbh. Let the terminally online people run their mouths. It doesn't matter. I hope she will be happy and that she will enjoy the rest of her life in peace.

A Paper boat.... Its so fragile and yet it floats...

It's crazy how many "fans" say that they've been supporting her for years but then are completely clueless about her health issues. They're either entirely unaware of why she needs to be away from work (and it IS work) or they just don't care.

as somebody with severe chronic illness, watching the way the internet ripped into her for her hiatuses revolving around her health was and is kind of terrifying. my condition is bad enough that i often dont give close friends updates very often (if at all) because there's only so many times people can hear "im too exhausted to get out of bed" or "im in too much pain to do the things i need to be doing" or "i'm going to the ER for the 3rd time this week because ive been fighting with the pharmacy on the phone for 5 hours about medication i need to live survive without being in crippling pain". that shit takes a toll on the people around you, too.
sure, she could use to communicate that her schedule is inconsistent and very back and forth, but it's evident there's something deeper going on. i just hope she's okay and that she's able to be happy.

Wherever she is rn, I hope she has a steady recovery and she's happy

One of the things that saddens me the most was how hopeful she was in the beginning and the plans she had that all fell through

@NebunyaCosmic 2 months ago

I think people are underestimating how much a chronical illness can screw your life. A lot of the time you never actually heal from it, you just have to live with it.
I don't know her much but I feel like she truly wants to stream but is constantly held back from her health and pressure :c

I've never actually been more than a casual fan of Saba, this makes me want to support her 110%. I recognize the pattern. I see the excitement, the energy and then the crash. You feel like you have more than enough spoons to do everything you want to do, and only after you stumble do you realize you have nothing to catch you anymore. Being negative toward her will likely only make things worse. Peeling off a scab repeatedly can make even the simplest wound into something tragic. Please be kind to one another! <3

I think the biggest issue is she very rarely communicated. There are very few conditions that stop you from at least communicating every once in a while.

I just hope that Saba is OK, I watched most of her streams and I really like her goofy personality.
If she takes her time recovering, or if she decides to retire from streaming, I will respect that and wish her all the Happiness and Health in the world.

Quick info for anyone reading this, BE CAREFUL with your stress levels, too much stress can really fuck up your body.

Casual fan here. Watched her for the first time with Saba's debut. I didn't know about her health issues so thank you ! I'm glad i'm not on social media, damn. Some people are just braindead bloodthirsty empty shells. As someone who has been through tough times via health problems, i blame Saba for nothing. And no i don't think she has to hold to expectations or standards. She's indie. We can watch other stuff and cancel/pause subscriptions, that's our own money. The only contracts are with companies. There is no duty to entertain us, that's just something some random girl behind a catfish personna chose to do online and had success with it.

Man, I've been watching her since Senzawa. As an old time fan, I've gotten used to not expecting regularity. We're lucky to have gotten so much amazing stuff from her. I'd love more content. But honestly, I just want her to be okay 🩵

@Cat-Daddy 2 months ago

If anyone's curious, her last post before she paused membership said she'd be "making a tweet in the coming days explaining things to everyone else". It has now been 48 days.

@toshii8232 11 days ago

True fans know this already, let her stream when she wants. She pops up, troll the internet, then goes away, and repeat.

@deep_amok 2 months ago

I really wish the best for her, but I do feel she could've handled her absences much, much better. She never had to give details, but it genuinely takes zero effort to make a member's post once a week saying something like, "Still not feeling well. Going to see a doctor on xxxx," or "Doctor said I still need to rest. Miss you guys." And the only reason I can think of for her not doing even that minimal engagement is that she could've developed PTSD while being Gura, so doing anything vtuber-related triggers that PTSD, which causes her lots of physical and mental issues. That's the only case I can think of where I could be ok with how she's handled things.

@junem8536 2 months ago

I totally understand Saba. When you're ill (either mentally or physically or both) it can be difficult to do the things you love. People who hate on her are awful. I hope she'll get better <3

She was our inspiration to start our own Avatars

I hope wherever she is, she recovers and lives happily by her terms

I feel bad for Saba may she have a happy recovery :(

@DuskEx 1 month ago

her whole privacy thing ended up hurting her, IF ONLY she made a public statement or told her fanbase about whatever she is going through they would probably understand and not just be guessing that it might or might not be about health issues
