The beautiful colors and intricate patterns found in agate stones inspired today’s Gelli printing adventure! After browsing photos of agates online, I challenged myself to recreate their organic bands, cracks, textures, and vibrant colors using a Gelli plate, alcohol inks, acrylic paint, bubbles, and even Dollar Tree Chrome Nail Powders.

Not every experiment worked the first time—and that’s part of the fun! I initially tried adding bubbles directly to alcohol inks, but quickly discovered they worked much better over acrylic paint. Sometimes the unexpected discoveries lead to the most interesting techniques.

In this video I create five completely different agate-inspired prints, each using a slightly different combination of materials and layering techniques.
