The ÖBB 1020 “Crocodile” is one seriously intimidating locomotive — but can you actually tame it?
In this Train Sim World 7 guide and tutorial, we’re taking the legendary ÖBB 1020 onto the Mittenwaldbahn and learning how to properly handle this huge piece of railway history. Getting this machine moving is one thing, but keeping it under control on the mountain descent is where things get really interesting!
The big challenge is learning how to balance the *train brake and motor brake* together, especially on those long, steep descents. Get it wrong and things can get very interesting very quickly!
Originally built in Germany during the Third Reich era as the **DRB Class E94**, the ÖBB 1020 became one of Austria’s most recognisable electric locomotives. In Train Sim World 7, this powerful Crocodile gives you a very different driving experience from many modern locomotives — and it takes a bit of learning to get the best out of it.
So this isn't simply a run to sit back and watch. This is a **Guide & Tutorial**, where I’ll show you how I approach driving the ÖBB 1020, how I manage the braking, and what you need to know to keep this beast under control on the Mittenwaldbahn.
If you're new to the ÖBB 1020, struggling with the braking, or simply want to understand how this fascinating locomotive works in Train Sim World 7, hopefully this gives you everything you need to start taming the Crocodile yourself.
And if you're already a veteran driver, let me know in the comments how you handle the ÖBB 1020 — because I’m sure there’ll be a few different ways of doing it!

The ÖBB 1020 is certainly a different beast to drive, especially when you start heading back down the mountain!
How do *you* handle the descent — and how are you balancing the train brake and motor brake? Let me know in the comments, especially if you’ve got any tips for getting the best out of this old beast! 👇
