This is so frikkin’ helpful! I tried a slide and ebow of the winter and had nuthin’ but chaos. I also was running before I walked. I’m going to certainly approach it again!
I’ve been so burnt out with learning. My right hand improves, but apparently my left hand is only good for holding nails and screws. This may just be the variation I need to get out of the slump. Enjoyed the vid. 👍
I only recently took up banjo. Having tinkered with it a while, it became apparent that the banjo is very well suited to bottleneck. Despite being so well suited, I've been puzzled why it's virtually unheard of.
I did do a couple modifications. 1) I fabricated a new bridge from micarta. It has more mass than a normal maple bridge, and it seems to have a kind of "flywheel effect" in that it sustains longer, presumably at the expense of attack and volume. However the tradeoff is marginal. I also modified the post of the 5th string tuner, such that it sits lower than the fingerboard. I found this extremely helpful, but it is a trickier modification to pull of for some.
Hey Tom - I posted this short little slide banjo clip because I wanted to sent it over to you and show you what I’ve been working on with your slide tips! I would love some feedback if you ever have a moment - thank you for all that you do! https://youtube.com/shorts/OuBe6Ttn_6o?si=lb2YscrEk6yNM03b
