The Nitwits were the "Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In" segment of Tyrone F. Horneigh and Gladys Ormphby, played by Arte Johnson and Ruth Buzzi. Tyrone and Gladys were never married in the Laugh-In sequences. If they were married in the cartoon, that would have been a radical change.
Amiss the racial tensions in the '60s and '70s, people knew what a joke looked and sounded like back then. They were not as openly sensitive as people are today.
Gen-Xers who watched these cartoons were not offended. We enjoyed them, despite the controversy they may have had. Gen-Xers could not be offended with these animated classic cartoons. These are classic gems of our childhood. I wonder what the young people of the modern world think of the cringeworthy situations they find themselves dealing with today.
Wait Til' Your Father Gets Home was never a children's cartoon. It was prime time for a reason, and that reason was the material. It was meant to appeal to adults at the time, and essentially the father in question was an average guy trying to cope (sometimes awkwardly) with a changing social environment. His neighbor was essentially a ramped-up parody of Archie Bunker from All in the Family, who railed against communists and "pinkos". Interestingly, Harry Boyle was voiced by Tom Bosley, who played Richie Cunningham's father in Happy Days. Yes, it was animated but was never a children's cartoon. Here's a neat factoid: The Flintstones premiered in 1960, in primetime because it was geared more toward adults. Same with The Jetsons, two years later.
Oh, and it's Hanna-Barbera, not "Hana"-Barbera, as in the Japanese word for flower.
I loved Fat Albert the whole gang was totally cool. It's so sad that you can't say or do anything without offending someone and the smallest group can destroy anything no matter how mainstream it is. The tiny voice get magnified for all the wrong reasons.
Thanks for including "Wait till your father gets home" And I can still sing the intro BTW Gladys and her Husband Tyrone are based on the Characters that were from Rowan and Martins Laugh In. Tyrone was portrayed by Artee Johnson there too

Maybe if they keep these cartoons and the family sitcoms, the children today would be less chaotic. There's no lessons for them to learn from. So all they got are their phones and guns.
