A 5,000-year-old craft that almost no one knows about today, even though we constantly encounter objects whose appearance was significantly influenced by goldbeating.
He produces gold leaf, gold sheets—unimaginably thin. Ten thousand sheets stacked on top of each other result in a thickness of just one millimeter. These are used to gild, for example, figures, ornaments, and frames.
Herbert Vestner's workshop in Schwabach is ancient. Almost nothing has changed. As it has been for centuries, producing gold leaf still requires 30 steps. Only five of these have been automated by machines. And these machines are already over a hundred years old.
Over the centuries, the small town of Schwabach developed into the world center of this craft; one in six inhabitants was involved in it. Today, there are perhaps only ten workshops left.

Danke, dass wir mit dieser Doku von 1996 wenigstens einen kleinen Einblick in sein Handwerk hatten.

Daß es Menschen, wie hier im Video klar zu sehen, gibt, die tagtäglich ihren Beruf so ausüben
und das vom Anfang der Lehre bis ins hohe Rentenalter und ggf. darüber hinaus, zeigt mir
immer wieder, daß diese Handwerker, egal aus welchen Berufszweig, ihren Beruf als Berufung ansehen.

Ich selber bin gelernter Elektroinstallateur mit späterem Studium zum Techniker Elektrotechnik,
hab' ich meine Aufgaben, die ich tägl. im Kleinstbetrieb Meister, der in meiner Lehrzeit noch der Altgeselle war,
und die Werkstatt übernommen hat, immer so ausgeübt, daß 3 für mich wichtige Kriterien erfüllt wurden.
1. Der Kunde muß mit der Arbeit am Schluß zufrieden sein.
2. Mein Meister war mit meiner Arbeit zufrieden.
und 3. Ich selber hatte meine Freude daran, eine gute Arbeit zu erstellen.
Daß dabei natürlich auch alle Richtlinien, also VDE etc., zu 100% gegeben waren, erklärt sich von selbst.
Pfusch gab es net! Und wenn mal eine Arbeit aufgrund des Objektes (zu 80% im Altbau) mal ein wenig
neben der 100% erledigt werden mußte, dann mußte dieser Quasi-Pfusch, aber immer noch den 3 Kriterien genügen.
