THIS EPISODE:

James Patrick "Jim" Masterson was a lawman of the American West and a younger brother of gunfighters and lawmen Bat Masterson and Ed Masterson. He made several hundred arrests during the next two year time span, mostly of drunken cowboys who came through Dodge City on cattle drives. On September 1, 1893, as a Special Deputy U. S. Marshal, he was involved in the Battle of Ingalls, a gunfight in Ingalls, Oklahoma against the Doolin-Dalton gang, and was responsible for the capture of gang member "Arkansas Tom" Jones.

The Minnie on the Masterson tombstone was James and Bat’s sister Emma Anna “Minnie” Masterson, daughter of Tom and Catherine (Katherine) Masterson.

Unusual to have three brothers from Canada(especially Quebec)become lawmen south of the border. Had a chuckle when you described how these brothers would try to talk outlaws out of situations in a low key,polite way. Very Canadian! You always find an interesting story out there. The shooter was so close to Ed Masterson the black powder cartridge set Ed's shirt on fire. My grandmother was Alice Jean Dalton a 3rd cousin to the Daltons. She was born in 1892 in Franklin KY and died in 1969.

I have to agree with you about the movies. Costner's version was near dead on. It was the historical film while Russell's was the fun film.

Virgil Earp, was the 1st Marshal in Colton, CA. When the town was 1st started from 1883 until 1889 when he resigned. Buried in Portland, Oregon, Wyatt is buried in San Mateo, CA. and James is buried in San Bernardino, CA. James body was shipped from Arizona to Colton, CA accompanied by Virgil.

Wow ron, that cut me deep, I loved tombstone and still watch it when I can to this day, I'm a huge kurt russell fan and I thought it was just a great western, I wasn't reaching for truth , just entertainment, I loved 1985 Silverado western with Kevin cline, that's my second favorite, anyway I still love your channel, I'm not crazy about Dennis quaid, never have been

My family is from Coffeyville and I can remember going through the Defenders museum and visiting the sites in town where the gun battle took place and then going out to the cemetery to visit the grave site countless times as a kid and growing up and taking my own family there. My grandmother told us some of our family members were involved in the defense of the town and had a lot of pictures.

Wyatt Earp is my ancestor.....many in my family were in law enforcement including my dad.. Dont forget to visit Maple Grove cemetery interesting stuff there too!

Did you ever hear of the Reno gang? They were among the first of the train robbers. They are buried in Seymour Indiana. That was quite a story complete with them being lynched. They grew up on a nice little farm but became outlaws like so many others. I grew up in Oklahoma, hearing about the Daltons and the Doolings and Belle Starr.
