You know all of these years, and I never once heard that compressors create square waves!  Now THIS alone, is incredibly valuable to know… I had no idea until now!  Thank you 🙏🏻

Wow. That section on compressing the kick was incredible. The way the resonance was more pronounced and the reshaping of the sound, he essentially created an entirely different element than what the source audio was. To think of your comp as a tone shaper instead of just dynamic control…I’m gonna have to spend some time on that because my jaw is on the floor. Thanks for this vid.

Absolutely amazing information. I am getting so many ideas on how to implement this stuff. I bet you could mid side EQ the reverb on a snare to let the low frequencies sit in the middle while the high frequencies go out to the stereo channels

I hope I understood everything correctly and can explain it properly. Here are some things I learned:
One thing I really liked was the EQ ear-training exercise, especially using vowel sounds to train our ears to recognize what kind of EQ adjustments a vocal needs.

Another important point was controlling the vocal with clip gain and proper gain staging before compression, so the compressor doesn't have to work too hard and can just handle the remaining dynamics in a more controlled way.

I also liked the approach to reverb — treating the reverb itself almost like a separate signal by EQing and compressing it, then controlling its level in the mix so it stays noticeable without becoming overwhelming.

And the explanation about the different types of delay, their timing in milliseconds, and how those timings affect the sound was really useful too.
