Too young in '61, Paris suburban sidewalks didn't have that perfume , had to move later to listen to Reggie , Elvin in the Village, Mc Coy in Roxbury, Boston, too bad for me no more Eric & John, still , music stays and lives for our hearts and ears.

Elvin Jones, Reggie Workman, McCoy Tyner, Eric Dolphy and John Coltrane! What a freaking lineup!

Coltrane does not play an instrument he is played as an instrument by something greater and sacred

Tried to listen to this while cooking dinner tonight. Impossible to do both so I turned off the stove burners, poured a tall glass of Spanish red wine (Jumilla), sat down in pillows and actively listened to this miracle of eternity in time preserved in time. The godhead of 5 ever bestowing, blessings upon them. Gratitude to the nth degree.

Eric Dolphy was with us such a short time - as was Coltrane - and gave us magnificent gifts & memories

This for me was tantamount to discovering some Lost Village Vanguard sessions. Those recordings with this ensemble are legendary. This offering is an existential part of that great music.

Unbelievably good. Taped at the Falkonercentret, Copenhagen, on 20 November 1961. The previous week they had played eleven shows in the UK, culminating with two on one night at the Walthamstow Granada, (November 17); the following night they played two shows at the Olympia in Paris, then the night after that two in different cities in the Netherlands (Scheveningen; Amsterdam). The Copenhagen show was followed by successive nights in Gothenburg (two shows), Helsinki (two shows), Stockholm (two shows), Baden-Baden (only a thirty-minute performance in a TV studio), Hamburg (two shows), back in Copenhagen (Mel Lewis on drums because Elvin Jones 'had left his passport in Hamburg' -- Porter, J.C.: His Life and Music, 1998, p. 366), then Frankfurt (November 27), then an evening off, then Stuttgart, Nuremburg, one more night off, then Munich, then West Berlin. So they played seventeen nights straight and 26 shows in that period (one a truncated one, the others all about the length of this one), thirty shows in total on a European tour that was less than three weeks long. Just unbelievable.

Mr Coleman,
besides for more than 50 years professionally playing flute, alto flute, bassflute and contrabassflute, I also play tenor, alto & soprano sax.
So yes .. I can assure you, Coltrane is playing a soprano sax.
