How does Voldemort fly without a broom?
It’s one of the most shocking moments in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows—and it’s never explained.
In this video, we uncover how unsupported flight works, why it horrified the Order of the Phoenix, and how it connects directly to Occlumency, emotional detachment, and Voldemort’s inability to love.
By comparing Voldemort, Snape, and Harry, we reveal why only two wizards ever achieve this ability—and why it’s not a power Harry should want.

Ducks Fly. Voldemort Flies. So Voldemort weighs the same as a duck.

Another flyer died at the Battle of the 7 Potters: Hedwig.

Still doesn't answer if unsuported flight would be quidditch legal.

@qBeYcarpet 8 months ago

He's using a flying carpet, wrapped in an invisibility cloak!

The automated subtitles writing "aquamans" instead of "occlumens" makes the video a whole lot funnier to watch.

So Voldermort is an Airbender?

@shinneneguns4815 8 months ago

Its quite easy actually, he just got a Redbull.

@generalxod5727 8 months ago

don't forget Narcissa Malfoy in those great Occlumens, She lies to Voldemorts face. Also, this "emptying yourself of emotion" reminded me of Avatar Korra where Zahir can fly by following the Air Nomad practice of detachment. Interestingly similar

That duck throw was nuts 😂

New SCB merch idea: Magnetic ducks that ALWAYS go in cups.

12:23 it’s not shocking that the sociopath is good at controlling his emotions and thoughts and the hotheaded jock teenager with a traumatic past of negligence and abuse has issues with it

Addition to this theory: Snape probably taught Voldemort rather than the other way around that’s implied in the book. It’s so unlikely that Voldemort would share this piece of magic, he thinks of himself as the greatest/pushing the boundaries of magic. So why would he share this rather than use it as another example as to why he alone is the ‘greatest wizard’? Because Snape, the master of all masters of occlumency, must have taught him!!

I once saw a headcanon that it was Snape who TAUGHT VOLDEMORT how to fly. Then someone else did a drawing of them during their lesson, in a very whimsical pose. I can't accept any other version of events since then.

That 'thought you ought to know' cut was golden!

Let go your earthly tether. Enter the void. Empty, and become wind

@KiwiMan960 8 months ago (edited)

Yeah, because Madeye is the ONLY one who dies, during the battle of the seven Potters. (Cough cough) Headwig (Cough cough)

3:02: There are others. Rita Skeeter and several Veela “can fly without the support of some kind of other magical instrument, vehicle, or beast” because they have wings directly.

And I don’t think that explanation makes sense; it’s on the same level as the Hitchhiker’s Guide explanation and doesn’t really fit Harry Potter.

But you know what does fit? Ignore Voldemort for the moment and think of Snape. If you were to list all the features that are always mentioned for him, one includes “billowing robes”, even when there is no external wind. That only makes sense if they are enchanted to lift up. Perhaps with the same charm as a magic carpet. Snape is, literally, flying by the seat of his pants (and all the other fabric he wears).

Voldemort could do that, but as you said, he does not like external tools. But what does he have in this war that he didn’t last time? A new body, with bones that are reconstructed from extremely available pieces. They could be broomstick-enchanted.

@TabbyRezzer 8 months ago

I do like this idea of detachment from the world being how he can fly, but I always liked the slightly more gruesome and kinda metal idea I read in a Harry Potter fan fiction. Casting the flying broomstick magic onto his bones.
